Warrior99:That is not true. Tribalism on nairaland didn't fuel tribalism on X Nigerian is a country with different tribes, hence there will be stereotypes of different tribes, it is also similar to people who live in multi racial countries. As long as there are different tribes, there will be always be tribalism. Anybody thinking otherwise is living in a fantasy world. |

advanceDNA:The point I am making is simple. People accuse nairaland for tribalism when the real tribalism is going happening on Twitter 24/7 Here on nairaland at least it is moderated. On Twitter it is not and people fuel tribalism and agenda there daily, they breath it there and act on it |

motymop:See I get your English.....weda twitter or Nairaland...tribal bigotry is not a good thing... U trying to justify it here with ur claims that it is more on twitter is absurd to me... U sound like those that justify violence in Nigeria with violence in United States schools |

ERockson:I wonder why the commenters are seeing only igbos 🤣🤣🤣. Before I got married, my friends and I wanted to rent a three-bedroom apartment so we could have our rooms to ourselves while we were working. However, the landlord said he does not let single women live in his house, and we have no issues with him to this day. Perhaps some women have taught him a lesson he will never forget. |

advanceDNA:You got to deal with either of the 2 Violence and tribal bigotry are part of the experience of living in this world If you allow both to ruin your day, then it is up to you. One thing you need to realize, you can't change the world to suit what you want. It up to you to filter what you wanna hear or listen to. |

Among the three ardent fighters for Nigeria's independence in the '50s, Awo was indisputably the smartest. There is no room for contention in that regard as every student of Nigerian history will attest to its veracity. What, however, cannot be ignored is the fact that Awo, as brilliant as he was, spun the fibre of the contemporary unbridled tribalism that has become so intricately woven in every layer of the fabric of the Nigerian society, be it religion, politics, or even business. His deliberate misrepresentation of the Western Premiership election as an ethnic battle rather than a clash of political ideals, where the contestant with the best ideal-constituent fit wins betrayed his highly coveted western education, portraying him as a man not at all dissimilar to thugs-turned-politicians ever so ready to fight dirty to achieve a political goal. His nefarious strategy worked so well that decades down the line, the average Nigerian still fails at placing policy as the highest priority when casting their vote. Our so-called founding fathers were blessed to occupy the unique position of steering the path of a soon-to-be Independent country to greatness, eschewing the backward tenets of tribalism that left them the biggest failures in the globe, but ultimately chose the sinister path that leads to doom like their fathers before them. Awo, being the smartest, surprised me even more by adorning a XXL clown costume. Perhaps his failures to achieve his lofty political goals, evidenced by his constant adulation of George Washington and Winston Churchill, was a karmic response to the active role he played in ensuring that the future of his countrymen centuries down the line amounted to nothing. |

AndroBlaze:I agree with you. I got.my first house at Shangisha Lagos, the Landlord was a Yoruba Muslim. 6 months later he sold the house and notified me. I got another apartment in less than 2 weeks and he was very impressed (he had promised to refund my balance), I needed the balance to pay for the new house anyways but the new Landlord (another Yoruba muslim) said he does not accept Igbos. I informed the previous landlord of my challenge because we were close. This my first Landlord, personally followed me to the new landlord, informed him that I was his best tenant and even pledged to stand as a guarantor for me. That was how I got the apartment. The bias thing is not generic but specific to some individuals regardless of ethnicity |

UUPenguin2:What Azikiwe did was bigotry Northerners can rule themselves Easterners can rule themselves But westerners shouldn't rule themselves Why?!!! If Azikiwe didn't want the British Ruling his own Homeland what makes him think the West didn't want to rule their own Homeland according to their Culture and beliefs themselves too? Why didn't Azikiwe first work to put a Westerner as the Premier of the East if he wanted to be premier of the west so nobody is taking undue advantage of the other side? |

Dougad:You are right. About a year ago, I took my time to research on the two men (Awolowo and Azikiwe) and even though I’m Igbo, I couldn’t help but accept that Awolowo was smarter and more intelligent than Azikiwe. Awolowo was trained in UK while Azikiwe was American trained. I read their speeches and saw Awolowo’s visions were clear and lucid. But I found out he was an idealist. Azikiwe, influenced by American culture, was a pragmatist. Providing realistic solution to what is instead of grumbling about what ought to be. But like you summed up, between the two of them, Azikiwe’s heart was purer. Awolowo damaged Nigeria forever. |

Penguin2:1. NCNC was founded by Herbert Macaulay, a Yoruba man, and it is a testament to the accommodating nature of the Yorubas that Azikiwe not only became a member of the NCNC but also rose to its leadership. 2. It is evidence not ronly of Azikiwe's disdain for the Yoruba but also of his pipe dream of subjugating them that he couldn't find any Yoruba NCNC leader to be Premier of the Western Region except himself, a South Easterner. 3. It is on record that no sooner had Azikiwe taken over leadership of NCNC that he began filling the key positions with Easterners and in particular people from his Igbo ethnic group. By his actions, he directly or indirectly transformed NCNC from a national party into an Igbo or Eastern party. 4. By the benefit of hindsight, it would have been a disastrous mistake if Azikiwe had been made Premier of Western Region instead of Awolowo. We all know that Azikiwe's leadership and legacy in the Eastern Region is far beneath what Awolowo's legacy and contributions to the development of the Western Region. 5. A careful examination of Zikism and the Zikist Movement reveals their death as a result of the fact that Azikiwe was unwilling to make the required personal sacrifices unlike Mathma Ghandi. Hence it was only Awolowo that was able to found and lead a party based on ideology in the entire country. It is little wonder that NCNC became a party synonymous with corruption with flag bearers like Mbadiwe and Okotie-Eboh. Even Azikiwe was marred in corruption scandal keeping Government Funds in African Continental Bank, a bank founded by him and in which he still held shares while being Premier of Easteen Region. 6. It is no wonder that when corruption was rife in the First Republic with NCNC politicians and Azikiwe associates like Mbadiwe and Okotie-Eboh as poster children of corruption, the First Military Coup by Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna sought to free Awolowo from prison and hand the reigns of national leadership to him to change the course of the nation. It was a well known fact even by that time that it was only Awolowo as Premier of the Western Region that had demonstrated exceptional develomental leadership not marred by corruption. 7. I am often surprised when some uninformed people, primarily of Igbo extraction, claim that Awolowo introduced tribalism into Nigerian Politics, when it is a clear historical fact that Azikiwe was one of the earliest champions of tribalism. Azikiwe saw no wrong with nepotism and tribalism and even gave a public lecture on the benefits of tribalism in forging national unity in the Princess Alexandra Auditorium at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1964 after he became President of Nigeria. |

Babinski:You mean Yoruba people saw all these and still went ahead to vote for Azikiwe’s party in majority? There are two things involved here:- it’s either you are lying through your teeth and distorting facts or you are saying the Yoruba populace of then were dumb. And where are the facts to back all these claims of yours? |
