Alex Otti doesn't need to sign anything.

Obidients in Abia have repeatedly told us they enjoy 24 hours power courtesy of the Geometric power project Otti facilitated in Abia.

I hope one day that this complete lack of awareness afflicting African rulers comes to an end. A disproportionate percentage of all electric power generators imported into Nigeria are from China. But somehow the same China is being looked upon to solve a problem that will hurt their economy if it is solved.

China should know that the moment USA the great under president trump or whoever, supports the igbo nation, this slave trade project and the useless 80 year project in enugu, will be null and void.

Trade war dun start, only igbo leaders no get foresight.

sw is already administrating the discrete chinese takeover foundation in Nigeria. Abokis in Nigeria and niger, are solidifying with Russia; only igbos are starkly aloof to the frequencies around.

Igbos can still have respectful negotiations, and wise trades with china and Russia, but the wise thing for igbos to do now, is to gum body with USA the great and the great state of Israel.

They see where I talk say my opinion on igbo nation, is for the great nation to prioritize electricity; then these lames went and signed a useless deal. Okay, make una forfeit all una pay for 1 year, and when una get back, work on reducing pay waste, before pay resumption.

Left for me,if it is possible I will prefer not to borrow any money,Nigeria have everything it needs to become a fully developed country, but no, the incompetent and corrupt leaders won't allow that to happen.
All these so called super powers only cared about the interest of their various countries, they don't care about us,if they loan you 1,000 naira, believe me,they are looking to take 10,000 naira from you.

I'm sure they can find some smaller European or Latin American countries that have put problems like this behind them without needing help from China. I'll probably try to do some research on this myelf but countries like Egypt, Brazil & even Rwanda don't have this problem. Was it China that helped them all? Looking at it objectively, how can you call upon the person making profit from your problem to come help you fix the same problem? Does it make sense?

I understand your point, but it's too simplistic. China is the manufacturing hub of the world, and it makes sense that we import portable generators from them. The demand for generators will remain, even if we achieve reliable electricity, because of the growing needs of various sectors.

To be candid, no other country has the same level of motivation, resources, expertise, and capacity to address Nigeria’s electricity challenges as China. They are the leaders in this field, with no close competitors. Nigeria can keep signing contracts with companies like Siemens, but when the time comes to actually implement large-scale solutions, they will have to turn to those who are capable of delivering.

For example, China added more than 300,000 MW of electricity in just one year – roughly 50% of the total global additions for that period. To put that into perspective, Nigeria’s total installed capacity is about 10,000 MW, Rwanda’s is around 500 MW, Egypt’s is about 60,000 MW, the UK’s is 120,000 MW, and Brazil’s is 250,000 MW. China’s annual addition alone is more than the total installed capacity of most countries, including Nigeria.

To get results, we need to work with those who have the capability to make it happen. Simple as that!
Re: 36 Govs Sign Mou With Energy China To Drive Electricity Reform by ManOfSon: 11:54pm On Apr 11, 2025
Please sir, read me correctly. I'm not saying that China doesn't have the expertise to fix our electricity needs. Far from it. What I doubt is the incentive for them to do so when we're also the largest market for their generators. There's nothing simplistic about my concern. You don't call someone to come help you fix a problem that this same person is benefitting from. We don't even have to go too far. We've tried this with steel at Aladja & Ajaokuta - telling those we buy steel from to come help us build our own steel industry. How's that going? It's not true that only China can help fix our power sector. I'm not buying that at all. It speaks to some level of naivety and lack of awareness.

In an apparent move to boost state energy planning within the States of the Federation, governors, on Thursday, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Energy China.

Energy China is a major Chinese company known for renewable energy and gas production in China.

Speaking on behalf of the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), the governor of Gombe State who doubles as the chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, said that the MoU and the ensuing relationship between the organisations will signal a critical step in strengthening the institutional framework for sub-national energy governance through fostering energy security, efficiency, and economic development across the States.

According to the Gombe State governor, ”It is crucial to acknowledge the transformative journey that Nigeria is embarking upon in the area of access to sustainable electricity which includes renewable energy, particularly in the wake of the recently passed Electricity Act of 2023.

”This groundbreaking legislation marked a pivotal moment for our energy landscape, introducing innovative structures that aim to boost investments and enhance the reliability of power supply across the country.
Since the passing of the Electricity Act, we have witnessed a surge of innovations and reforms aimed at revamping our energy sector.

”We are moving towards more decentralized energy solutions, encouraging the integration of renewable energy solutions that can provide sustainable and affordable electricity to our communities.

”The Act has also laid the groundwork for improving regulatory frameworks, enabling private sector investments, and fostering public-private partnerships, a vital component for the successful implementation of our renewable energy goals.”

However, he noted that, ”we must acknowledge that these advances come with their own set of challenges. Shortfalls in infrastructure, financing, and regulatory hurdles continue to impede progress. We must address these issues collaboratively.

”By fostering partnerships between the government, private investors, and international stakeholders, we can develop innovative financing models, improve capacity building, and enhance grid infrastructure to accommodate renewable energy sources effectively.

”In this context, I want to highlight some of the ongoing reforms within states in Nigeria as they pursue ambitious but worthwhile and achievable energy initiatives. States are crafting tailored policies that align with national objectives while addressing local needs. They are also establishing frameworks and instituting regulatory bodies to drive the electricity markets within their localities. These reforms are crucial as they leverage our unique resources and provide flexibility to implement localized solar solutions.

”The synergy between state and federal initiatives will be key to driving effective change and achieving our collective renewable energy targets. The NGF has a vibrant Power Desk which has played and continues to play a coordinating role in the efforts of the States as they strive to implement the Electricity Act. The Forum offers a one-stop platform in providing support to the States as they grapple with the enormous responsibility placed on their shoulders by the Electricity Act.

”We believe that this relationship with the China Energy International Group will foster a robust development in the acceleration of energy access in the country and the NGF would use its best endeavours in supporting these efforts.”

Also, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, explained the MoU, saying, ”This collaboration supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This partnership reflects our shared ambition to expand access to clean energy, strengthen energy planning at the state level, and promote sustainable technologies all in alignment with our National Energy Masterplan and national development goals.”

According to the Minister, ”The scope of this MoU includes: Deployment of renewable energy infrastructure (solar, wind, hydro), and
Establishment of a Nigeria-China Renewable Energy Research Centre to drive innovation, technology transfer, and capacity-building.

That's impressive!

The State Governors are beginning to strike the right cord. Without sustainable electricity generation, there will be NO sustainable economic growth and development.

The President Tinubu administration has under the Electricity Act rightly granted all the States to the latitude to generate their own independent electricity generation needs which Lagos State tried to do back in the early 2000s in partnership with ENRON under the then Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State
BUT Obasanjo's irritable government scuttled that project just the same way he seized Lagos State's Federal monthly allocations simply because Lagos State wasn't a PDP-governed State!

Nigeria will never have steady power supply in this generation. Is it today they have been signing one memorandum or the other?

Nigeria is cursed and it is a shame that till date, the whole country can't boost of steady electricity due to corruptions.

Shame on you all corrupt leaders.

Nonsense, childish thinking.

China gains far more from a powered up Nigeria than merely somewhere to sell generators to.

Do you know how many Chinese companies are in Nigeria and how many are on their way?

Go to Lekki Free Trade Zone and see what's going on there.

They are not coming here to rely on gen. They are here for the long-term, so adequate power supply is also in their interest.

Nigeria and China established a Strategic Partnership during President Tinubu's state visit to China.

Technology transfer is big on the cards.

This is way beyond selling gens.
