The Ekiti State Police Command has taken into custody an officer accused of stabbing a civilian in the Ise-Ekiti area of the state after an altercation which involved his girlfriend and the victim’s son.

The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video in which the victim’s daughter claimed that the officer, who was allegedly a chairman’s orderly, attacked her father in their home after a disagreement occurred between her younger brother and a female classmate.

“He went on to stab my dad with his fellow police officer because his girlfriend was arguing with my brother at school. They went to our house to deal with my brother, but on getting there, they didn’t meet my brother; they met my dad and elder brother,” the girl said in the video posted on X via Yoruba Times on Friday.

In a statement released on Friday via the Police Complaint X account, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, SP Abutu Sunday, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, to take over the case and carry out a thorough investigation.

The statement read, “The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, upon noticing the complaint, directed the DC CID to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.

“Meanwhile, the officer in question has been taken into custody for investigation and other necessary actions. The command is calling on everyone, especially the family members of the victim, to be calm, as nothing short of justice will be delivered in this case as soon as possible,” Sunday wrote.

You can only say about yourself, there are millions of 'clean ' / honest and trustworthy Nigerians both in and outside the country.

They can start by overhauling the Nigerian police and start with recruiting graduates with better enumeration and standards.

Well, we can enroll policemen and women with degrees...that's what the Norwegians did after a scandal which led to the death of an immigrant.....but would it prevent such nonsense from happening? Nope.

Humans are humans. University education does not necessarily make one a 'good' person. After all, there are graduates who get into violent fights over women and men.

Funny enough, the girl is probably not a minor. (I once met a guy who was in JSS2 at the ripe old age of 22...no he was not dull, na village boy he be, and parents kept him back because farm things)...many of our students in secondary school are already legally adults....so her dating a policeman may not be strange.

Still it is sad that the man decided to let his emotions rule his common sense.

That is why i said they should start with recruiting graduates. Far more better than the illiterates we have in the NPF.

Other police bodies would be also inaugurated like the board of police ethics etc, to review the performances of police personels and uphold the standard operating procedures of the NPF.

We can gradually get it to 85/90% from there.

The main problem of the NPF is the proliferation of illiterates, who cannot even read or write or speak English. Tell me how those ones can function?.
