They are playing Mind games on Igbos. They actually refused to recruit Igvo people into the military. Then they will come to the media to shout that Igbos are not applying. I have 8 friends from Imo State that applied, they all got rejected.

They do it on purpose because they know if the release press statements like this, many Igbos on social media will say Igbos are not interested. They are afraid that Igbos will topple the government if they are given weapons
Another angle to it.

Good observation

As long as it is rank and file we won't complain. Or have the military complained about the same thing in NDA?

The South East does not trust the Nigerian Army as an institution

We see the Nigerian Army as nothing more than a tool of oppression, suppression, thuggery, abuse of power and human rights abuse

Recruitment into the Nigerian Army will always be low in the South-East.There are very few Igbos interested in fighting for Nigeria
And that is why Igbos will never be respected

Even in Olden Igboland - Farming was for women, slaves and children while fighting and hunting was for men.

Keep marginalizing yourselves

Who wants to die for a country that doesn't appreciate the sacrifices that they make everyday?
How much is an average soldier paid?
What happened to those four soldiers that were publicly shot dead by Boko members?
Have adequate compensation being given to their family members?
Look at the environment most of our servicemen and women reside and you will think they have been abandoned!
The worse part is an average soldier after suffering for months to capture terrorists, will watch them being rehabilitated for 6 months with jollof rice and chicken, then released just like that!

Exactly what I thought. I know some guy from the north got admitted into the NA using Anambara as state of origin. He's never been to Anambra or even from Anambra, but that is the slot the God father used to get him in

Did those Igbos apply as officers or infantry?

Why will they complain when the youths in the region already knows that they will profile and sacrifice them to bokoharam in the war front they all saw it play out during buhari's fulani jihadist regime where thousands of soldiers from the south east
and south south were betrayed in the war front and sacrificed to bokoharam.

Please go to the official website of the Nigerian Army and give them this valuable information that youths from that side press drugs trafficking, fake drugs manufacturing and baby factory instead of joining the armed forces

Please give the jobs to those sophisticated ediots. Only Northerners can't be filling up slots meant for sophisticated people grin
They need fresh blood to sacrifice to BH demons.

Ogbeni, rest! South East takes all the slots for commissioned soldiers. Our people even pay the last kobo to get the positions.

South East youths only shun those petty positions meant for young soldiers assigned to go into Sambisa forest to waste their lives for chasing after terrorists (non-commissioned soldiers).

You people should stop making this silly comment whenever this issue comes up.

Nigerian Army sends 1000 soldiers to sambisa to fight BH: 800 from SE, 80 from SW, 100 from SS, 20 from the entire north

Nigerian army sends 500 soldiers to the US on a special training:
150 from NW, 100 from NE, 70 from NC, 70 from SW, 50 from SE, 60 from SS.
Re: Nigerian Army Worries As South East Youths Shun Recruitment by lagonovo: 4:22pm On Apr 12, 2025
Please send the rest to Oyo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Osun. Southern Nigeria must not be at a disadvantage, nobody knows tomorrow. That's how Igbos and Fulanis dominated the military during colonial days and they have turned their battle into one that affects all of us till today grin

It truly does not make sense.

What will an Igbo young man or woman benefit from joining the Nigerian army?

How much is the pay?

What is the realistic career progression like?

How will he be better off than his kinsman who focused on learning a trade or craft?

Who wants to sacrifice sons that will be sent to go fight terrorists and bandits, while politicians and their fronts are making money from the insecurity, their own children living comfortably abroad?

Had a relative who signified interest last year, to join the Army as a recruit. I discouraged him, got him enrolled for apprenticeship in shoe making in Aba and assured him that at the end of his apprenticeship, I will help him set up his own.
Do you know how many reached the rank of general before ihejirika and Jonathan?
That was why there was a massive outcry against them cos they tried to balance the qouta. Eventually, they were sent packing. And when posting to departments, .....see, I have a lot to say about the Nigerian service force. They should stop sending political court here

There was a time a whole imo state has one general.
Promotion is zero. Even those that were sent to represent ecomog, their money miss road.

Re: Nigerian Army Worries As South East Youths Shun Recruitment by DMerciful(m): 4:30pm On Apr 12, 2025
The scenarios are different. Nigeria is currently acvtively fighting terrorists in the NE and NW. Igbo recruits will be the natural people to send to go and die.

Igbos do not love Nigeria enough to die for Nigeria, only Biafra can such sacrifice be made
nairalanda1:
I remember reading about one Korean nationalist who when Korea was a part of the empire of Japan advised Korean youth to join the Japanese army

His reasoning was that when Korea became free it would have a ready made trained cadre of soldiers .

And the chap was not fond of Japan by the way.

Many listened to him. That is why by 1948 , both the dprk and the rok had standing armies. And even advanced training institutions.

It might be a good thing for a biafranist to join the army. Just saying.

I respect the SE's decision to shun army enlistment. However it will come back to bite. Those unfilled slots will be reallocated to northerners. I believe any wise person should know the implications.

Why are we giving slots for military recruitment? Isn't it better to choose the best without considering state?
Let's stop this thinking that brought us to where we are.

That's really crappy, let us all be active in the scheme of things. Don't be passive about stuff like that, now that you're given slots.

In the nearest future they'll be crying foul, saying that they're marginalized.
Re: Nigerian Army Worries As South East Youths Shun Recruitment by Nchenches: 4:40pm On Apr 12, 2025
It shall be use of Boko Haram/ISWAP from one front and use Nigeria armed forces from the other front when the Jihad is officially declared against the eastern region of Nigeria.
At this juncture, those Igbo politicians s(e)lected by the political system will run away with their families from Nigeria and leave the masses to slug it out with the Islamists.

There is nothing to worry here. If they are not ready to join the military, their slots should be given to other states. If they were to pick 120 successful applicants from each state, their remaining slots should be given other states
