I recently travelled to the east for a function, but it's too bad that I get to experience first hand why the easterners are calling for the dismantling of the several road blocks across the region. If the road blocks can't be dismantled, then the hierarchy of our security agencies should sanitize them to stop extorting from the motorists. My first stop was Uyo, so we took a public transport from Uyo to Umuahia. I can tell you that there is a check point in less than 1 kilometers along the road. From one of the check point, you will be seeing the next check point and they keep extorting the drivers. Though along this Uyo-Umuahia road, the security guys manning those check points did not make it mandatory from the drivers to settle them, so at some of the check points, the driver talked his way out of it. Our next journey, was from Umuahia to Ohafia and back. We entered public sienna that took us there and back. On this journey, it was compulsory for the driver to pay #200 at every check points. There is no negotiation here, once they stop you, just bring out your #200 and move. A journey of less than 40 mins, there where not less than 17 Check points. Now the issue is, those guys aren't checking anything, all they do is stop vehicles and collect money(though I don't know for private cars) then you go, no checking of anything, so if we are criminals, that's how we will just be settling them with our them noticing us. |

The next day, we continued our journey from Umuahia to Enugu via Enugu Port Harcourt expressway. This is a very major road, so anyone who thinks am lying can come and refute me. On this road also, especially from Umuahia to Okigwe and before you enter Enugu, there are check point in less than every 2 kilometres along the express. Though most of them didn't make it mandatory for us to settle them, but the delay tactics they employ is already showing, "settle us so you can go" vibes. This is too bad. Also they don't even check anything serious, and for the fact that security men come under attack from UGM, they aren't even alert to thwat such an attack. No wonder UGM usually succeed when they attack check points, cos those men even the soldiers aren't cautious and alert at all. And to make the matter worse, the check points on this road are mostly situated on the hilly side or valley side of the road. This is a disaster waiting to happen, as trailers use that road very well, meaning that when they are stoped at a hilly check point, due to the load they carry, their brake can easily fail, then they start moving backwards, crushing all the cars at their back. Or when they are coming down the slope approaching a check point at the valley, they can still fail break and crush all the cars holding up on the check points. What's our govt thinking. Those check points are a threat to life of the citizens plying that road. The Enugu side of the road don't have numerous check points like that of Umuahia to Okigwe. Now from Enugu to Nsk through Ugwuobo Nike to Opi junction, check points there are plenty and they keep collecting money from motorists tactically. The tiring thing is that two days before we pass there, thee was a kidnapping incident along the road, 3 days later, there was another kidnapping incident. Now what's the essence of those check points if they cant even stop criminals from kidnapping people. Politicians from the East especially those at those national assembly should do well to address this issue of excess check points along the eastern roads, as to me personally, they are not doing anything there to help combat insecurities along those road that they are manning. |

IGBOPROMISE1:Those once along Umuahia to Ohafia, the money they extort from drivers could one of the reason why just a journey of less than 40min is costing 3000 naira. Something is not supposed to be more than 1500. Modified I forget to add... I passed through Onitsha Asaba bridge and there was hold up there... Only for me to discover that there is a check point of road safety and police officers across both sides of the bridge extorting money from motorists. In fact, they are the primary reason why there is hold up on head bridge. Those road safety there, don't they know the hazard of the hold up they cause on that bridge as Thier action is causing the bridge to over load. Imagine been stoped by road safety and police as you are entering the bridge, then on coming out of the bridge, police and road safety still stop you again. |

What you have in East are not checking points but extorting points. Death to Nigeria |

Rich4god:And after the Nigerian Army has committed all that crime against Igbos at their extortion points, which they call checkpoints, they will wonder why Igbos are not joining the Nigerian Army |

Politicians from the south east all ply those roads one way or the other, they see the checkpoints littered all over the place. But no one can speak ill of it, they all act as if they've been caged or barred from defending their people. Something is terrible wrong with the "elder" or supposed leaders of the southeast. |
| Re: Security Check Points In The East. My Experience. by Rich4god(op): 8:07pm On Apr 13, 2025 |
gidgiddy:Seriously, govt needs to do something about all the check points in the East, they are causing more harm than good. Even if they don't want to remove them, then they should desist from extorting motorists. |

HisSexcellency:Our Eastern politicians are the worst set of politicians in the country. Look at gov Mbah of Enugu state, no one will tell me that he didn't sign away Eha amufu land to terrorist so that they can make him gov, because despite the killings going on there, the man is just silent. |

Rich4god:And after extorting Igbos in their numerous extortion points, without solving any of the insecurity issues in SE, helinues will still call Igbos "enemy of the state" I wonder where that rubbish talk is coming from. |

| Re: Security Check Points In The East. My Experience. by Rich4god(op): 8:19pm On Apr 13, 2025 |
Mbanda:The extortion is so brazen. That of Umuahia to Ohafia, all the security agencies are on that road and it's mandatory for commercial drivers to path with #200, there is no questioning, else you will be delayed. Imagine paying #200 for more than 17 check points. Look at how much the drivers are loosing. Also imagine how much those security men are making per check point. |
| Re: Security Check Points In The East. My Experience. by MadamExcellency: 8:19pm On Apr 13, 2025 |
There is no war going on in the Southeast. Every security apparatus was established to force Igbos into submission and allow the Fulani herdsmen to override the zone. Every leadership and Security head posted to Eastern Nigeria must be Hausa/Fulani Muslim, especially in Military bases across the zone. Ask yourself why there is maximum peace every time the government withdraw these thieves from highways. Most of the atrocities on highways are stages to keep these dear devils on the roads |

Mbanda:You are a liar, a stinking one for that matter Have I ever mentioned you before in my comments? Have I ever quote you before ? Engaging with you is always boring as nothing logical from your comments just like the one above. Na as usual bullshit Get a meaningful life and stop the senseless trolling . People with meaningful life can never stoop to the level of trolling others |

Rich4god:That is what they do to us. Making our lives more miserable is their trademark. Imagine after buying fuel at high cost, you will still give 200 Naira to all the security forces tinibu sent to SE. And after that helinues will call us "enemies of the state" and expect our people to love Nigeria. Thank God for karma. Karma is the only thing that makes me happy in Nigeria. Karma is already on the trail of every APC supporter. |

helinues:Whenever I hear you mention the world "logical" I always laugh because, you don't know the meaning of that word and you don't have what it takes, to engage anybody logically. What you have in your arsenal is nothing but hate, lies and propaganda. So you see, there is no way you can engage anybody with those things and expect a positive result. |

Rich4god:The East is under siege. Our region is more militarized than Northeast. The war ended in 1970 but they are still fighting us. Then they wonder why we are angry. They wonder why Nnamdi Kanu has followers. They wonder why Simon Ekpa has followers. It’s because the people are frustrated and angry, and would always fall for anything that suggests a path to freedom. |
| Re: Security Check Points In The East. My Experience. by Rich4god(op): 9:11pm On Apr 13, 2025 |
Penguin2:Abuja to Kano, a journey of more than 4hrs has less than 10 check points, despite the kidnapping news we hear. Katsina to Kebbi road, despite the presence of bandits along those road, they don't have much check points. And the check points there dont harras or extort money from motorists.... Why is the eastern own different. |
| Re: Security Check Points In The East. My Experience. by Rich4god(op): 9:20pm On Apr 13, 2025 |
illicit:You know the issue, the narrative that the media paint about the east is so bad that you will think every minute, there is gunshot in the East and no one is living there. But I stayed more than 3 weeks in four eastern states and 1 week in Asaba, every where is so calm, people go about there duty. I personally feel it's those security men that even fuel the insecurity. Cos how can you be in an area that you claim is under attack by UGM and yet you as a security man all you go about doing is to extort money from motorists without you been on alert to the job you were sent there to do. The eastern state is so calm and peaceful, aside from Eha amufu herdmen attack and the kidnapping going on along Enugu Nsk express, (of which there plenty check points supposedly set up to forestall the kidnapping), I didn't here of any serious incidents that's a threat to human life and daily activities. |
