House to Inaugurate Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight

Abuja-FCT | Sunday, April 13, 2025 - The House of Representatives will on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, inaugurate an Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, in furtherance of its constitutional mandate and commitment to transparent governance.

This follows the resolution of the National Assembly approving the Proclamation, with amendments, by His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, declaring a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

The Proclamation presented to the National Assembly by Mr. President was subjected to rigorous legislative consideration and duly amended to strengthen democratic safeguards and uphold the principles of checks and balances.

One of the most consequential amendments was the designation of the National Assembly - rather than the Federal Executive Council - as the oversight authority for all regulations issued under the emergency arrangement.

In line with Section 5 of the State of Emergency (Rivers State) Proclamation, 2025, and pursuant to Section 11(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the House has constituted a dedicated Ad-Hoc Committee to monitor implementation and ensure that governance in the State remains within the bounds of constitutionalism and rule of law.

Members of the Committee include:

1. Rt. Hon. Prof. Julius Ihonvbere – Chairman

2. Rt. Hon. Ali Isa J.C. – Deputy Chairman

3. Rt. Hon. Isiaka Ibrahim – Member

4. Rt. Hon. Idris Ahmed Wase – Member

5. Rep. Aliyu Muktar Betara – Member

6. Rep. Sada Soli – Member

7. Rep. James Abiodun Faleke – Member

8. Rep. Igariwey Iduma Enwo – Member

9. Rep. Shehu Saleh Rijau – Member

10. Rep. Wole Oke – Member

11. Rep. Akarachi Etinosa Amadi – Member

12. Rep. Patrick Umoh – Member

13. Rep. James Barka – Member

14. Rep. Alex Egbona – Member

15. Rep. Isa Anka – Member

16. Rep. Amos Daniel – Member

17. Rep. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu – Member

18. Rep. Onuh Onyeche Blessing – Member

19. Rep. Fatima Talba – Member

Head of Secretariat:
Prof. Jake Dan-Azumi

This development underscores the resolve of the House of Representatives to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and ensure that the extraordinary measures undertaken during the emergency period remain subject to legislative oversight, guided by transparency, accountability, and the best interest of the good people of Rivers State.

Signed:

Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr.
Spokesman, House of Representatives

Hehehe.

If only the government take governance serious as they are taking this River State case Nigeria would have become a better place.

Because of their interest, they prioritize everything Rivers. People are dieing in great numbers everyday and nothing is been done about it.

The economy is in shambles, inflation is all time high, yet nothing is been done to address it.

Nigerians are watching.

It's unconstitutional to suspend an elected Governor.
Tinubu the new premier of western Nigeria has shown he's nothing but a tyrannical dictator masquerading as a Democrat

When I was younger, I was taught that the Legislative, Executive and Judiciary arms of government are independent of each other.

But recently, both judiciary and legislative dance to the tunes of the executive. I don't see them object to any issue raised or brought forward by the executive. Or at least take a little time to debate on it.
Do they have to agree to everything?

Nigeria keeps sinking day after day. Illegalities can never be turned to legality.

Until Nigerians with good conscience clamour for electronic voting and gets it, Nigeria will continue to get worst.

This is long overdue. The leadership of House of Representatives just wake up from their slumber. But fear of intimidation has lead to unchecked power of Rivers administrator Ibas.

The illegality won't be extended. Fubara will come back before the expiration of the ongoing SOE.

This life is just full of unfair power play. Imagine an elected governor ousted out of office without prior notice and his government becoming an extention of the federal government.

I feel for Fubara.

Personally,I don't know how fubara will govern the state without reconciling with Wike.If he returns in let's say 2 or 3 months time and the house of assembly still remove him, will that not amount to shame or could even lead to a big crisis in the state? At this junction,I fubara has just two options either he resigns or reconcile with Wike.

Illegality at it peak, after being bribed to allow an elected governor being suspended, they are setting up another legislative arm to over see the rlRivets assembly...

Where does this leave wike
Leaves him nowhere but he'd be happy that since he cannot steal rivers resources by bullying Fubara now visiting hyenas from the other tiers of Government including the Executive presidential will be having a field day pressing Rivers allocation till they are tired or till next election cycle...they so badly want to provoke rivers people so that tgey can arrest and ground Fubura based on trumped up charges of inciting violence etc....I hope Rivers people and Fubara don't fall for that wicked scheme.
Same pattern is emerging in neighbouring bayelsa state now...Wike and Tinubu are encouraging using some hirelings to destabilise a stable state so that they can arrange another MILAD...and progressively cause chaos and take over a peaceful and legitimate political structure...

Tinubu has never earned anything FAIR in his entire life...its all in his philosophy of SGR...Snatch it, Grab it..and Run with it...shior!!!
