Ponzi schemes, fraudulent investment scams promising high returns with little risk, have plagued Nigeria for decades, exploiting economic vulnerabilities and the allure of quick wealth. From the infamous Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox (MMM) in the mid-2010s to the recent CBEX controversy, these schemes have left a trail of financial ruin, eroded trust, and exposed regulatory gaps. This piece traces their history, examines their mechanics, and assesses their profound impact on Nigerians.https://newscentral.africa/from-mmm-to-cbex-nigerias-recurring-ponzi-tragedy/

An average Nigerian is a greedy mothafuka. Always ready to grab it by force just like Thinubu did in the past and present. The spoil is from the top and Tinubu is the top. Ponzi scheme headquarters in Nigeria is located at ASO ROCK VILLA. |

Greed is part of our nature as humans. It only takes discipline and a clear mind to tame it. A lot of persons don't have that discipline. More Ponzi scheme will continue to spring up, and people will continue to fall for it. Just like growth, every subsequent Ponzi scheme is modified in a very smart way in order to make it look like an actual investment. |

When a company promises a 100 percent return on investment and you cannot categorically state what they are buying and selling, just know it is the new "investors'" money they use to pay the "old investors" Ponzi schemes will never end as long as the age-old emotion of greed is in operation. The only difference is that it would be repackaged, but the modus operandi is still the same For those who lost money, you cut your losses and move on; any attempt to recoup your "investments" would only lead to "sunk cost fallancy"- " the phenomenon whereby a person is reluctant to abandon a strategy or course of action because they have invested heavily in it, even when it is clear that abandonment would be more beneficial". your money haff go.....suck it up and move on |

They will never listen. I warned someone not to enter one of the Ponzi schemes a third time. He instead would not listen interjecting that it is not his third but several, citing that he has many bills to pay as an excuse. |

I have never fallen for anything ponzi I first learned about ponzi schemes in 1997. Albania was the country. Too many ponzi schemes, all collapsed. Not only was the country on fire, it resulted in full blown war. It took albania some time to recover. I can remember when in 2002, and 2009 people asked me to help pay into this financial scheme, good ROI....As soon as I saw the details, I knew it is a ponzi scam. I nicely but firmly declined Mavordi....I knew of that man in 2006. He had already scammed millions of his own people, and other eastern europeans. That's why as soon as I saw MMM in NIgeria, I knew the scammer had expanded operations to NIgeria. It is good we watch news channels sometimes....CNN, ALJAZZERA, FRANCE 24, RT, DW, BBC, sky, etc, etc. Sometimes, as for me, you may pick up information that will save you 20 or 30 years later. |
