i have this ability to write kid novels. I don't know how to go about it. Actually, the real problem is how to publish if i finish writing.

I don't know whether you have any idea about this.

Apart from my 9-5 job, i want to be an author. Is this author of a thing sef lucrative?

This is not a good time to set up a physical business in Nigeria. Don’t waste your money and time. It’s not worth it.
The moment you start a computer center, you will not have enough time for other things anymore.
A lot of people has suggested online based hustle for you, follow that line. Research more on any online hustle that will interest you and fetch you good money. Get yourself a good laptop, move to an area with band A power supply and good cable data network service. That’s all you need, not all this renting of shop, buying of printer crabs. Those will only fetch you change. You have to widen your scope and get greedy, raise your money making expectation. Stay online and follow the trend

I swear I didn't know you already had the idea. Now that you know about YouTube you can even make more than 200 a month. Some people in your niche are making thousands you are talking about this little money.

Like I said better focus on this one and forget this rubbish business center you want to do. I can send you a YouTube link on how to get started on any kind of niche. It's a 24Hrs course and it's amazing. If you are interested I will drop the link..best is to download the course and watch cos it's broken into segments. I work more than 10hrs on faceless everyday and I love what I do too..

Edited: The mathematics niche isn't a good niche at all on YouTube as people aren't really interested in it. You can also check it out yourself. But you can still make researches and do other things like true crime, detective stories etc or other things you love.

Even Mr Beast is a mathematician but had to use compromise and make money otherways. After you make so much from your Faceless then you can now follow your maths dreams.

Relocating to ph is good but starting up a computer business is bad here. I base in ph too. I would advise you to come to ph and enroll in national open university of Nigeria in portharcourt to study computer science or information technology since you have passion in tech. You can also apply for cyber security because it's a new course they just added to their courses. No need of jamb. It's just waec. Use part of the money to buy keke bus here in portharcourt and give someone to drive and ve remitting 7k each day. After four years, the money you are getting from the keke will be enough for you yo japa for your masters abroad. Don't travel our without degree. I'm currently studying information technology in the school. I can help you if you are ready. So simple

A little back story.

Due to some ugly circumstances, i dropped out of school in 2019 and I've been at home since then, periodically picking up one or two low paying jobs. 2 years ago, I decided to learning a tech skill. I taught myself C++ programming language and I'm currently teaching myself mathematics aggressively, studying for min of 8 hours daily.

For the past two years, I've mostly always been in my room, I can be in our house for more than two weeks, without stepping a foot out of our door due to how engrossed in studying I always am. My goal is to learn C++, DSA , And Math to an undergraduate level then use my skills to apply for scholarships to study abroad, and probably work in a hedge fund company as a quantitative trader in the future. For those who know what leetcode is, i can currently solve most leetcode (hard) problems in less than 40 minutes.

Now, I'll be 24 in August, and my dad is worried that I'm wasting my life away because I've refused to pickup any real job or learn a trade, his worried that I'm already getting old, always reminding me that people my age are already getting married. Now he wants me to leave his house to go look for my own place to stay, and has offered me 7 million naira to go start life else where.

Now I plan to move out of Lagos to PH or Akwa Ibom, then use part of the money to start up a computer business center, where I'll be doing typing, printing, lamination, jamb registration, GCE/WAEC registrations, etc. One of the reasons I chose this is because I've worked in a place like this before and I have experience in how to run such a place. Another reason is that, this business would give me time to also study and sharpen my Math/Programming skills. I plan to rent a shop that is big enough so that I can also be sleeping/living there.

Now I seriously need advicing because this is such a turning point in my life and the next few years is going to make or break me because there is no room for any disastrous bad decision cry
Straightforward Advice for Your Tech Dream

Don’t take the business center route—you’ll stagnate there, and it’s very hard to get out of that rut.

I was once in that position and had a similar dream to yours. Thank God I made it into tech as a Java programmer. If programming is your dream, you need to pursue it with full seriousness.

My advice: Don’t accept the 7 million settlement from your uncle. Instead, ask him to enroll you in one of the top programming schools in Lagos so you can fast-track your learning and start building applications to solve real-life problems. Alternatively, look for an entry-level job.

If you want to work in banks or fintech companies which have the highest employment rate for programmers, consider learning Java or C# (C-sharp)
. You could also explore the DevOps path.

Second, don’t isolate yourself
. Learn how to interact with people and attend tech events regularly. Teamwork is a crucial skill in tech, but you must develop good people skills to succeed.

Lastly, most companies in Nigeria don’t use C++, but Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) are still very important.
I wish you well my brother.

Do all of this with Ai and post on YouTube channel. Watch videos on YouTube and see how it's done. The world has gone technical and not physical. That story book you can even use Ai to enhance it with even more great plots. Goodluck.

I will advise you to Japa to African countries that have stable light.
Dont make any move yet.
Secure remote job first then Japa.
If you still want to stay in nigeria and start business
PH is the best.
I have lived in PH for years.
Setup computer training center where you teach people graphic , programming and ICT programs and employ good instructors..
This business is hot cake in nigeria.
That will sharpen your knowledge.

Its the job I do. I own a business centre too in Abuja. Don't let anyone tell you other wise. Many has done good with a good business centre. Especially when you are using a DI machine (Sharp or Konica). You will make a killing.

Get a good spaced place which has toilet since you will be sleeping in there and it's also good for customers and students to pee too.

With less than 4 million you are good to go. Just start small and use the profit you get to grow the business and get more stuffs into the shop.

Give me the money, when you are 30 years...I will return it 🤣🤣 just kidding sir...

Truth is you already have a nice skill... split the money... look for investment and use the rest to invest in your trade...or what ever you know brings you money....

Mutual funds are nice
Go to any top bank and enquire, that one is money for life... without stress..

Go into agriculture business... not produce but be either a middleman or a retail seller...
Middleman involves high risk and ruggedness.

Bro, since you've learnt C++ or skilled on C++, go to Lagos or a better state, set up your shop, and make it a computer and skills acquisition center such as desktop publishing or programming.
Do publications, and be strategic.
I'm currently learning cybersecurity with Python, Kali Linux, and SQL, and I've plans to do same soon.
May God direct your path.
Goodluck bro.

I don't have any LinkedIn now cos I don't think it's necessary for now.

About the teaching math stuff, I also plan to start a YouTube channel where I'll be teaching Maths too, who knows, even if na $200 a month person dey see from there when the channel becomes monetized, that is even enough to quit the business and focus solely on teaching while I also learn.
you're all over the place and that's a problem.

Be focused.

You're learning a skill and so far you're good in some part of the skill.

The problem is you're not getting any jobs with what you have learnt so far. If you continue like this you'll go broke.

As you are learning a skill be earning beginners salary from it. Apply for jobs. Be tunneled vision.

Forget the cyber cafe stuff in my opinion. Instead find jobs in your skill level, earn and grow from there.

Here's another person giving you the same advice:

laivwire:
Good idea but maybe you should start using some of what you've learned to make money already.

A major problem in career development is chasing money on one hand and chasing passion on the other (for example , doing a job just for money while following your passion as a side hustle). Your progress won't be as fast as you desire because your efforts are divided.

But when you are being paid while working in the field you desire. You don't need to worry about how to eke a living and as you work daily, you're improving the very skills you want to develop.

I.T is about your project portfolio and the closer that portfolio can get to what obtains in the professional industry, the better. Start looking for jobs in your desired field even if it's entry level.

and don't make the mistake of throwing all your cash into the business. Start small.
I didn't see this comment before making mine above. But you can see the similarities.

Forget the 7million. Focus on what you can earn now with your skill. That's the real money. The 7million is nothing.

OP, take this advice. Build your portfolio with as many project exposure. This is what you need to go far in the field.

Never, Never, Never work on isolation. This is a mistake a lot of young IT enthusiasts make.

As for the funds with you. You're young. The economy is in shambles and it's swallowing as many businesses as possible. It's a good thing you already have experience managing a business center.
My advice is you dont make it too elaborate from the onset. Start small. You can get a cubical or space in any government establment like VIO, LG office or tertiary institution where you're aure of patronage. Invest in solar energy to cut down management cost. (Start simple)

Lastly, install cctv in your business center to monitor whoever is in charge of the business center when you're away. Some nigerians have no conscience running down other people business.

Also, work on your social life. Reason: Those that suceeded big time in IT, did through people who stood for them not necessarily friends in the field. Never isolate yourself

Wishing you the best out there

Try and invest 2 million out of that money in piggyvest or money market with yearly roi of 20%. If you also invest the profit with the principal, you should have up to 6M back in 5 years.

You said businesses dat depends on nepa in Nigeria will suffer. Okay, but what about preparing and cooking foods and sell dem to customers, just like a mama-put style. Will it see progress?
Staywithbina:
Let me give you an advice as someone who coundnt finish his education and has been struggling with life ,first 7m is no money ,in 5 months you will be looking for what you used that money for and you can’t tell, secondly any business that depends on electricity in Nigeria is sitting on time bomb ,you will always be struggling to keep the business afloat ,running a business in Nigeria is a huge risk so what am I going to advise you to do ,don’t even think of landed properties like land ,it will cease your money ,don’t try investing in agriculture or bitcoin ,it will Bleep you up ,here is my advice ,
Get yourself a keke ,get your self an apartment not expensive one but make sure no matter how small the space is ,that it’s in an area where there is constant light and good road ,pay your house rent in advance of 2 to 3 years ,
The remaining money ,use it and buy foreign container,it’s selling for 2.2m for 20ft and 5m for 40ft ,buy it and use Haib and dumb it at your village or fathers house ,make sure it’s legit before buying ..now use the keke yourself ,learn how to drive keke or minibus ,you say you want to learn programming, once in a while ,carry your keke and run out and do small business ,use the money to buy food stuffs and keep and keep learning your programming til you are sure you have learnt well and able to hook yourself with jobs ,you see that container,it doesn’t wear or tear and the price increases by daily and it’s easy to sell unlike lands ,sell the container when ever you feel like to invest in your programming business that’s when you are seeing jobs

And this descendant...

Make sure you never forget to stay motivated and focused.

Even if distractions abound, do remember your old man's good intentions...

If you were my son, at 21, I would've evicted you. Especially when it all seems as if you were wasting ya time and being lazy...

Don't let the man down (its poison to good men who means well for their descendants, kills them easily)...

At least just show workings and ease his frowns where you're involved....
And to make matters better, try to not let yasef down and succeed in ya first try.

At least you'd earn the right to look him in the eyes and say... I did tell you I wasn't wasting my time. And I'll bet he'll happily accept his misunderstanding....

I don talk too much, unlike lazy me... Smh

Plus do not be like this ancestor that likes booze and women. I'm old enough and I've suffered several harsh lessons in life to not be carried away.

You're young at 24. Do this for yourself.

You seem intelligent. However, go through my dairy to learn one or two things. But if jakpa is one of ur plan, then a degree is a must. Get your first degree and ensure to graduate with minimum 2.1. Then, the ball can be set rolling. 24 is not too old to go back to school. The degree will open the door u need to showcase ur skill.
