People not in the system will argue your salary with you as if they are the ones paying your salary.

At least 50% of public servants live on loans (including their almighty FIRS, NIMASA and even NUPRC). People take loans for different reasons; augment cost of living, property/automobile purchase, sponsoring wards abroad, financing a new business etc. Why do you think there are more finance companies springing up by the minute? You think they are there to service only Grade C and D federal employees?

People's lifestyle are determined by their level of income and a lot of us like to live a little bit beyond our means. Coupled with the current devaluation of our currency and rising inflation/cost of living, even 500k monthly is not enough income for anyone to boast they are not on loan.

While a National Gallery of Art staff may be managing public transport, a typical FIRS staff might think that it is unbefitting to be jumping public transport and will therefore take a car loan just to fit in to the lifestyle that supposedly "befits" a FIRS staff. An unemployed person will see the FIRS staff and presume they are doing far better.

A NIPOST staff may typically live on loan to survive the rising cost of living and other sundry expenses. A NUPRC staff may take loans to finance expensive private school tuition fee (that befits their wards), make down payment for several properties, start a lucrative business, etc. Because sometimes, the fact that you are well paid does not mean that you have cash to finance all your wants at the same time. The lifestyle/living cost of an NNPC staff will definitely differ from that of someone with NTA. The higher your income, the bigger your needs/wants/responsibilities.

In summary, loans are not a yardstick to determine the welfare structure of any organisation. However, FIRS staff are also not earning well enough to claim that a lot of their staff are not on loans. NIA pays far better than FIRS and I know a staff who is on loan.

Again, Mohisah, don't waste your energy trying to educate people who don't know how the system works. What percentage of FIRS staff can afford to rent a 2 bedroom in Guzape?

I hope u know there’s difference between taking loans to SURVIVE and taking a loan for investment. Moh99 is right when he said if u know where u are coming from u don’t need loans to SURVIVE as a member of firs staff. Emphasis on survival sir.

I take it as cruise, cause we all knw the highest percentage of firs lives in neighboring state.. I wasn't so serious abt the percentage i quoted, but just wanted to let us knw that, the way we quote huge fr FIRS isn't the reality and in turn causes them (staff) to go on loan to meet family pressures..
We're here to learn & unlearn somethings.

I won't say much here but I want you to know when ppl hustle to join FIRS, it isn't cos of their salary but the racketeers. One I know built a mansion somewhere close to my neighborhood. Firs operations is shielded in secrecy.

Most CBN staff do things on loan especially those below Deputy Managers, if them like they should believe or doubt I no send anybody. But one thing is clear they don't survive on loan. End

When Nami came onboard, it was 240k. Within his 2nd year in office, he increased it by 20%. And last Year there's another 60% increment.

Allowances: KPI once in every quarter (your one month equivalent salary), September allowance (I can't remember what dy actually call it), wardrobe allowance (50k*4) in a year. 13th month salary, and recently some new allowances were introduced.

Now, just imagine yourself working with FIRS, I know it's not like nnpc and others but mehn!

Many people think once you are a public servant or working in any of the B list agencies upward, you have AUTOMATICALLY risen above financial difficulties. That perception is very wrong.

Earning 400k in Abuja (for example) cannot still afford you a lot of luxury. You cannot live in certain areas, you cannot buy a car if you don't save aggressively for at least 24 months upwards. So what exactly does FIRS pay that makes it so mouth watering and makes the staff invincible to loans? The 400k FIRS TOs are earning in 2025 is what DPR administrative staff (GT) were earning in 2018. Compare the cost of goods, rent, fuel, school fees, services, etc then vs now.

A lot of commercial banks increased staff salary by 80-100% recently. You are likely to earn higher as an Executive Trainee in a bank than you will as a Tax Officer II in FIRS. 80% of MTN Nigeria staff earn above 1m monthly.

I can confidently place a bet that if you put down ten random paystubs of FIRS employees, at least 3-4 will be servicing a loan. Is FIRS salary okay? Yes. Is it in the league of the top 6 agencies in Nigeria with great welfare package? No. Can FIRS do better? Yes

I bow to superior argument. I am therefore sorry if my earlier post seems like I glorified MohIsah above any other person. I am keen on the facts, not the side talks. I WON'T COMMENT ON THIS FIRS DISCUSSION AGAIN. Thanks

There's a difference between needing loan for certain things and claiming that most firs staff RELY on loan to survive. The later means they take loans to feed. That's a huge lie.
