I taught myself C++ programming language and I'm currently teaching myself mathematics aggressively, studying for min of 8 hours daily.

For the past two years, I've mostly always been in my room, I can be in our house for more than two weeks, without stepping a foot out of our door due to how engrossed in studying I always am. My goal is to learn C++, DSA , And Math to an undergraduate level then use my skills to apply for scholarships to study abroad, and probably work in a hedge fund company as a quantitative trader in the future. For those who know what leetcode is, i can currently solve most leetcode (hard) problems in less than 40 minutes.

Now, I'll be 24 in August, and my dad is worried that I'm wasting my life away because I've refused to pickup any real job or learn a trade, his worried that I'm already getting old, always reminding me that people my age are already getting married. Now he wants me to leave his house to go look for my own place to stay, and has offered me 7 million naira to go start life else where.

Now I plan to move out of Lagos to PH or Akwa Ibom, then use part of the money to start up a computer business center, where I'll be doing typing, printing, lamination, jamb registration, GCE/WAEC registrations, etc. One of the reasons I chose this is because I've worked in a place like this before and I have experience in how to run such a place. Another reason is that, this business would give me time to also study and sharpen my Math/Programming skills. I plan to rent a shop that is big enough so that I can also be sleeping/living there.

Now I seriously need advicing because this is such a turning point in my life and the next few years is going to make or break me because there is no room for any disastrous bad decision

You are on the right track but try and minimise your risk. Computer business with accommodation ontop 7m in a new environment is unrealistic. Look for where you can manage before you understand your new environment

You will.finish that money in no time. i have done photocopy and computer biz before its not as rosy as it seems.

Why not

1. Apply for computer science in the University and use part of the money to register at Niit or any good computer school to learn programming. 3million will be enough to do that and fix the remaining 4million in a bank to be getting small thing every year that can pay your house rent and little expenses.

2. Tell your dad, if he can add to it and sponsor you to apply to a school in canada or UK. Pay part school fees and you will take care of the rest when you get there.

No 1 is a very very wrong advice. Nigerian Universities computer science is a waste of time. Road side WASSCE holders business centre attendants are far better than Nigerian Universities Computer Science graduates.

1. Take the 7 million and put at least 6 m in fixed deposit.
2. Find a very very cheap one bedroom apartment and rent it.
3. Approach an international IT company here in Nigeria ,the bigger the better and request to work with them for 6 months for free,( no salary no benefits etc)
4. Tell them all the stuff you said here about leet code,mathematics and your dreams etc. Tell them to give you the hardest and dirtiest jobs concerning the sector of IT you are interested in.
If they dont give you ,move to the next one and apply in person not online. Go to their various offices.
Once you get a job there ,work like your life depends on it. Be the first to get to work and the last to leave. Read ,breathe eat your job related to your field.
At the end of six months one or all the following below will definitely happen
1. You will be offered a job at that same company because you will be eminently qualified and familiar with the office culture( the pay will definitely be very attractive as na international company abi ) that is why i said you should approach international companies with sister companies or branches abroad
2. You request a letter stating you have six months working experience with them and hopefully you get very good recommendations, then you apply to big IT companies abroad eg google etc
3. You would have found a need for something i dunno maybe an app you can make and start a business out of.
Whatever the case after six months you still have 6m in your account. You are eminently qualified and highly employable.

I am genuinely worried for you honestly because you in the past two years you haven't had much interaction with the real world so this lamentation of inflation and bad economy may not make sense to you. The new location you intend to move to have you lived there before? What's the cost of living there? What's the light situation there and what is the NEPA billing like there because the business you intend to go into requires light will you be buying fuel daily? Pls don't rush and it will be better to start small then scale up in future because 7 million might seem big but when you enter market you will be shocked so don't rush things and be mindful of those who will come around in the name of help.
Lastly you have to be very prayerful the envy and jealousy out there is massive both from competitors and and non competitors it seems people don't like others progress.

Try to add some buying and selling to it. When you open the cafe, add selling computers wares, like laptop, flash drives, softwares, mp3. Those things brings customers to your main line of business.

My Advice Is That In All You Intend To Do, Never Ever Seek Admission Into Any Nigerian University. They Will Waste Your Money before You Even get To Final Year And You Wil Not Achieve Anything There. You Can Sharpen Your Skills Excellently Well With Boot Camps And Other Specialized Courses Online Or From Any Tech Firm At A Token Or Even Free.

I will tell you from experience.
If your plans are learning coding and moving abroad, you are on the right track, don't distract yourself. Focus and let your dad know about it. Work your ass off to get that. You won't regret it.
I am the last of the boys, got out of school and never wanted to join my other 2 big brothers in business because I have always wanted to move oversea.
It took me years, I was seen as a failure and lazy. My mates were way ahead of me back then. It was hard. But today, tables have changed. I moved to the US, now the breadwinner for the entire family.

My brother this your story is very touching and i gat just one advice for you... Go into agriculture especially cultivating watermelon, cucumber, pepper and thank me later... All you need to do is hire a farm land which is not expensive and get experienced labor to work for you... The returns is every 3 to four months....

My dream in life is to work in a hedge fund/quant company. And I'll need to be good at Math,DSA, C++ to achieve that. I already know C++ and that's what I use to solve leetcode problems. I'm currently learning math and I plan to continue doing so till I'm good enough to solve most IMO problems or attain an undergraduate level proficiency in mathematics. I don't have any LinkedIn now cos I don't think it's necessary for now.

About the teaching math stuff, I also plan to start a YouTube channel where I'll be teaching Maths too, who knows, even if na $200 a month person dey see from there when the channel becomes monetized, that is even enough to quit the business and focus solely on teaching while I also learn.

See ehn! I don’t know about kids novel or how publishing works. But I do know that after writing your kids novels and no publisher will publish it for you, get a ring light, a fancy table, tripod and start reading your kids novels on YouTube for kids to listen to. Sideline publisher, don’t let anything hold you back. A lot of upcoming artists has sidelined record labels by uploading their work on the internet themselves.
