Speak for your culture if you are not knowledgeable about more popular kings outside your culture. There is no such thing as one king being more superior to another simply because they are from a large ethnic group. That doesn't make them powerful
There's no title called "Mai of Kanuri." The correct title is Shehu of Borno. "

Re: 10 Most Powerful Kings In Nigeria by U09ce: 5:23pm On Apr 16, 2025
Obviously the list was compiled by a Yoruba. The person biasely populated the top spots with Yoruba monarchs. There's absolutely no monarch that is as influential as Sultan of Sokoto who is the leader of all muslims in Nigeria. Traditionally, all the northern emirs defer to him including the influential emir of Kano.
The next in position should be Ooni of Ife because the whole Yoruba race defer to him. The Oba of Benin follows up close because the Binis are not as populous as the Yorubas.
Re: 10 Most Powerful Kings In Nigeria by achillesfoot(m): 5:25pm On Apr 16, 2025
For the new generation Yorubas.. Ooni is not a king. He's a priest.. It's the british who changed things.. The real King is the Alaafin of Oyo, all other obas and any other royal nonsense are merely Baales and Chiefs. No one king is more powerful than the other. In conclusion, the writer is a jobless Nigerian trying to stir controversy. They live for likes..

The Oba of Lagos, also known as the Eleko of Eko is regarded as the custodian of the cultural heritage of Lagos the commercial city of Nigeria.
The Oba of Lagos is not a political position

but that doesn’t downplay his influence in the region as Oba. The current Oba of Lagos is Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu and he ascended the throne in May 24, 2003.

Hmmm
Oba of Lagos is the custodian of Lagos awori history.
Lagos Island is just a small town in Lagos.
He's not suppose to be on the list lol

Where did you get that from about Ooni of Ife? Have you ever stepped in Brazil or Cuba? Do you even know the sheer number of Afro-Brasilians and Cubans with direct relationship with Alaafin of Oyo? Several quarters in Salvador have names of some Alaafins clearly visible.

For your information, the FG/colonialists only waned the influence of the sultan. His mandate extends into parts of Niger Republic. We should also note that being influential beyond the shores of the country doesn't mean that one will is the most influential within the country. The Yorubas reached places in the Americas due to the Atlantic slave trade
