Trump frankly speaking should be taken to court by business. He is obviously using tariffs as an economic tool and not as a tool to deal with enemy nations. Musk, is the one dumber than a sack of bricks. He spent $44bn and a further $250m to elect a notorious protectionist whose proposed policies would destroy his businesses? Was he blown away with the opportunity of electing the next president and his work in slimming down the government that he became a slowpoke? He even had the temerity to look down at the then prime minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, forgetting that Canada was the second largest market for Starlink. Jeff Bezos too was dumb. Didn't he know what Trump's proposed 65% tariffs on Chinese imports would do to Amazon? Yet, he stuck to Trump, not wanting to hurt a megalomaniac. Corporate America stood by Trump despite knowing that Trump's proposed tariffs and mass deportations would ruin their businesses. Farmers voted for someone determined to do away with their workforce by deporting. Now, they have no one to harvest their crops, because these illegal migrants won't show up for work, fearful they may get deported. No sense anywhere. |

TemplarLandry:You're laughing at your suffering. If the Chinese economy suffers, oil demand will go down. It as already gone down and oil prices has dropped to $60 per barrel due to Trump's tariffs. With less dollar inflow, the Naira is going to lose value. Chinese reciprocal tariffs and ban of the purchase of Boeing jets has hit Trump hard. I am certain that states where Boeing jets are being made have been bitter with Trump It may drop as low as $1-2,000. Wetin slow Joe do? He left a strong economy. Inflation had fallen below 3%. The economy grew by 2.9% or so. Unemployment was 4% which basically means full employment in the US. He didn't start dumb trade wars that have led to tanking stock markets. |

Watcharena:this is still not up to half of what US alone imported from China in 2024(nearly $440billion). Africa does not speak with one voice economically, so it will not be wise for China to think they have the whole of African market because they have a good bilateral trade agreement with some African leaders. Wanting to use over 50 countries(with very low purchasing power) to replace 1 rich country that lives by consumerism and materialism is not it. China have a trade surplus of $295bn over US compared to trade surplus of $61bn over Africa. This is not something they will find easy to overcome. We know they can produce, but can Africa afford to buy, meanwhile lots of African countries collecting stipend, subsidized medication and aides from US will not really tilt their trade allegiance to China |

VERY GOOD. MUTUAL CONSIDERATION IS ALWAYS REGUIRED FOR DEMAND AND SUPPLY AND ACCEPTANCE AND OFFER IN ALL SITUATIONS WHEREVER. YOU DON'T CARRY PRODUCTS OF WHATEVER TYPE FROM BEIJING TO WASHINGTON TO DUMP WITHOUT CONSIDERATION. CONSIDERATION IS THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MOVEMENT, SUPPLY AND OFFER AND ALSO THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR INTERACTIONS, DEMAND AND ACCEPTANCE. IT IS WRONG TO SUPPLY "COVID-19" TO UK AND TO U.S TO DISTABILIZE THEIR LIVES AS RECKLESSLY AS IT HAS BEEN DONE. MAY GOD FORGIVE CHINA FOR IT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IT HAS DONE. |

Watcharena:The whole of Africa, over 50 countries bought $34 billion thereabout from US last year, if this dries up, i dont think US will flinch. secondly, the aid that US gave Africa in 2024 is $41billion. Another thing US is home to many Africans that contribute so much to remitances to Africa, African countries cant afford to have that dry up. |

Berankis:Any attempt to produce and reduce importation which usually comes with temporary hardship is resisted by our people. We have gotten used to easy life. Just import and sell. Subsidize the exchange rate so that imports will be cheap. We forget that a day like this may come. |

Trump should let China’s sleeping lion sleeps peacefully. Don didn’t know that God made the earth, while China made everything underneath the sun. |

D1official:China just lost 500b USD of annual trade, there is no way this isn't gonna cripple their economy. The only leverage xi has is that china is a communist nation and their will hardly be an uproar from the suffering population but America has free speech and ppl will certainly protest. If not in any trade war, the consumer has the cards |
| Re: US Raises Tariffs On China To 245% As Trade War Escalates by Gerrard59(m): 9:11pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
grandstar:That is because corporate America wants to see China fail or be destroyed. Corporate China has been eating into Corporate America's profits and country source of revenue. The same in Europe. The West wants to see China fail, and they believe Trump can do the work regardless of his antics. So they put up with him. |
| Re: US Raises Tariffs On China To 245% As Trade War Escalates by Gerrard59(m): 9:13pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Mccollins042:Trade with the US is about 15% of the economy - both import and export. The Chinese have built alternative sources over the past five years. Export to the US is less than 3% of China's total GDP. The Chinese have vowed to fight on. This is not Canada, and this is not the first time Chinese entities have been attacked by the US, yet they bounced back. See SMIC and Huawei. |
| Re: US Raises Tariffs On China To 245% As Trade War Escalates by Gerrard59(m): 9:15pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
tunapawizzy:China trades with MORE countries than the US does. That is the difference. Africa cannot afford Made-In-USA products, and even the ones which come as aid sef, Trump has cancelled USAID. The remittances sent by Africans in the US have nothing to do with African countries trading with China or anyone else. |
| Re: US Raises Tariffs On China To 245% As Trade War Escalates by eventainment(m): 9:35pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
USA does not have the capacity of being self reliant for now as most of its companies had seized the cheap labour and production cost that Asia gives. They can't fight China. China has a more global market than USA |

| Re: US Raises Tariffs On China To 245% As Trade War Escalates by tunapawizzy: 10:18pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Gerrard59:We may be saying the same thing. My point is that US will not fidget about the possibility of losing African market in terms of trade-. I know China will not crumble too because of just US market. You have a point about remittances. |
| Re: US Raises Tariffs On China To 245% As Trade War Escalates by Mccollins042(m): 10:22pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Gerrard59:Do you know what's 3% of GDP of annual trade? I don't think you know. Do you know what it means to lose 15% of your trade? Hope you know that Vietnam and Cambodia they normally use as proxy countries have been tariffed over 30% each? China is in a very tight condition now, like I said, Xi's only leverage is because china is not a democracy otherwise he would be kicked out |

| Re: US Raises Tariffs On China To 245% As Trade War Escalates by tunapawizzy: 10:28pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Mccollins042:Cripple is an exaggeration. It will have significant effect. But a nation that built success with hardwork, grit and perseverance will not crumble/cripple because of $436bn market loss. Mind you, even at over 200% tariff, a significant portion of the goods from China that enters US will still be attractive to final consumer when you take away the crazy markup wholesalers put on goods. And that's what the Chinese manufacturers are doing now, creating a direct channel to final consumers |
