Invest the whole money in a stable bank that can not crash and see the monthly proceeds as your first salary, now invest your time in learning the C++, when you have mastered it, do some project and go on to learn some python. when you have mastered the two, go for internship at any IT company, If they are not paying you #1 don't mind you are still on 100k salary from your investment. A lot of people working 9 - 5 don't even collect up to that. Continue developing yourself with the knowledge gained from the internship,
Which banks offer such rates? are you talking fixed deposits? care to explain more sir? alot of people of mentioned this here and it seems interesting to me. that's like 2% ROI every month? i thought banks offer such ROI on a per annum bases.

Don't leave Lagos yet.

If you're on X (twitter), go through this page @XAUUSD_Digger. If you're interested in that line of business, dm.

A little back story.

Due to some ugly circumstances, i dropped out of school in 2019 and I've been at home since then, periodically picking up one or two low paying jobs. 2 years ago, I decided to learning a tech skill. I taught myself C++ programming language and I'm currently teaching myself mathematics aggressively, studying for min of 8 hours daily.

For the past two years, I've mostly always been in my room, I can be in our house for more than two weeks, without stepping a foot out of our door due to how engrossed in studying I always am. My goal is to learn C++, DSA , And Math to an undergraduate level then use my skills to apply for scholarships to study abroad, and probably work in a hedge fund company as a quantitative trader in the future. For those who know what leetcode is, i can currently solve most leetcode (hard) problems in less than 40 minutes.

Now, I'll be 24 in August, and my dad is worried that I'm wasting my life away because I've refused to pickup any real job or learn a trade, his worried that I'm already getting old, always reminding me that people my age are already getting married. Now he wants me to leave his house to go look for my own place to stay, and has offered me 7 million naira to go start life else where.

Now I plan to move out of Lagos to PH or Akwa Ibom, then use part of the money to start up a computer business center, where I'll be doing typing, printing, lamination, jamb registration, GCE/WAEC registrations, etc. One of the reasons I chose this is because I've worked in a place like this before and I have experience in how to run such a place. Another reason is that, this business would give me time to also study and sharpen my Math/Programming skills. I plan to rent a shop that is big enough so that I can also be sleeping/living there.

Now I seriously need advicing because this is such a turning point in my life and the next few years is going to make or break me because there is no room for any disastrous bad decision cry

Diesel cost na your mate and when you are not around, can staff be trusted to remit all the funds.

Personally, I prefer option 2

honour7:
You will.finish that money in no time. i have done photocopy and computer biz before its not as rosy as it seems.

Why not

1. Apply for computer science in the University and use part of the money to register at Niit or any good computer school to learn programming. 3million will be enough to do that and fix the remaining 4million in a bank to be getting small thing every year that can pay your house rent and little expenses.

2. Tell your dad, if he can add to it and sponsor you to apply to a school in canada or UK. Pay part school fees and you will take care of the rest when you get there.

Fixed deposit can also be an option, but you have to do your due diligence to determine the best.
Have a look at these banks Fairmoney Lock, Stanbic IBTC, Piggy Vest. Better still go through this your thread with pen and paper and jot down key points and then go out and make research on each of those banking investment that make sense. Enter their office and make enquiries. Find out their interest rates, think about it and then think again and put your money in the one that is most secure. That way you know that you have steady income coming in every month. You can be staying with an Uncle or a friend, while you focus on improving yourself,(when you get a job that pays well you can then think of renting your own apartment). Then go to any IT company in Lagos that can take you as an intern with your C++ knowledge. (I don't know if Andela can take you, but there will be many others) . Then with this C++ knowledge start taking on projects that will help you to improve more on it. As I have said earlier, you can now branch out to Python or other programming language that catches your fancy. Put in the necessary hard work and you will surely get the result.

Last but not the least. Be very prayerful. Its important, It will open the door of favor to you more than you can imagine.(I am a living witness).

I will tell you from experience.
If your plans are learning coding and moving abroad, you are on the right track, don't distract yourself. Focus and let your dad know about it. Work your ass off to get that. You won't regret it.
I am the last of the boys, got out of school and never wanted to join my other 2 big brothers in business because I have always wanted to move oversea.
It took me years, I was seen as a failure and lazy. My mates were way ahead of me back then. It was hard. But today, tables have changed. I moved to the US, now the breadwinner for the entire family.
None of those people who saw me as failure can come close to my success
Hello I read your advice on another thread about HVAC. Do you suggest learning in a training school here for 3 months or apply directly to study in trade schools over there in the states with student visa

Your dad seems to be a very nice man and you seem very determined, why not just go back to school and get a degree in Nigeria pending the abroad own works

@relaxfun If your dad was willing to sponsor you, you should've at least tried to get a degree from a university against all odds. You might think you have it all planned out but the reality of life is rugged and different and you will later understand that things don't always appear the way you think they should. That 7m might look like a lot cos you haven't stepped out yet. By all means get a degree. it's better to have one you don't need than to need one you don't have.
