That is because corporate America wants to see China fail or be destroyed. Corporate China has been eating into Corporate America's profits and country source of revenue. The same in Europe.

The West wants to see China fail, and they believe Trump can do the work regardless of his antics. So they put up with him.
Your analysis is illogical.

Why would corporate America or West want China to fail when it is a critical part of their supply chain? Why would they shoot themselves in the foot?

A lot of consumer goods sold in US supermarkets or from online stores originate from China. Now that the tariffs are in place, US stocks are crashing. How will these retail chains find goods to stock their shelves? It will take years to find an alternative.

You never DESTROY your supply chain and that's what Trump as done with the tariffs on not only China, but the rest of the world.

Who really benefits from imports from China.

Look at Apple. By making its phones in China and India, it is able to sell its phone at over a $1,000. Were they made in the US, they would cost over $4,000. It even said as much as $31,000 if all the components were tariffed as Trump's wants.

Because it is made overseas, it makes a profit of over $100bn, and was the biggest company based on value in the stockmarket.

Now with the tariffs, the cost of phones would go up and it would sell less phones. Its profits would also evaporate, or come down greatly. I doubt its profit will even be up to $30bn.

You buy a product from China at $1 and sell in the US for $5 or $10. The over $500bn of Chinese exports to the US may be worth at least $3trillion within the US itself.

Trump doesn't just realize how vulnerable he is at this moment. All China needs to unseat Trump from office is to hammer US with 345% i.e 100% more of whatever Trump imposes. It would get to a point where Americans will just rise and remove Trump.
mumu, you must be stupid. Americans are happy with Trump, over 75 Nations are negotiating with the US. China ran to other countries but they refused Chinese offer. Eg Australia, combodia, India, and many more reject Chinese goods. Over 50milllion Chinese are out of work already. Who is loosing? Over 5 trillion dollars investment coming to America, manufacturing returning.

Do you know what it means to lose 15% of your trade?
Hope you know that Vietnam and Cambodia they normally use as proxy countries have been tariffed over 30% each? China is in a very tight condition now, like I said, Xi's only leverage is because china is not a democracy otherwise he would be kicked out
Well, they've vowed to fight till the end and Xi has visited both nations.

Let's see how it goes...

You see that democracy and the way you proclaim that he would be kicked out? That's the reason China don't want any so-called democracy where foreign powers will instigate crises so a particular leader will be removed. Examples are Nigeria and the Philippines. In summary, "democracy" isn't every country.

Which yeye jobs would be created? More jobs would be lost than created.

There was a reason why these jobs left America. It simply cheaper to manufacture them oversea. Everything boils down to price.

American manufacturing will l9se m9re jobs than it creates. Most jobs would be automated, needing far less workers.

Trump isn't popular. His approval rating has dropped below 50%. Simply search " what is Donald Trump's ratings now?"

The US is likely to enter a recession this year thanks to Trump's tariffs

Since we know these things, why are US corporate political elites shouting that the trade with China is unfair to the US? Why did Biden keep Trump's first trade tariffs in place and initiated newer ones aimed at scuttling the growth of China's semiconductor industry? Why is the EU-China Business Chief lamenting China's "industrial over-capacity" (see below)? Why did Biden place over 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs when they are much cheaper?

This has gone beyond economics, but it is now geopolitical. The same Trump put up a banner during the '80s against the Japanese for the same "unfair trade practices". However, unlike Japan, China is not signing any Plaza Accord deal, does not have US military bases on its soil and possesses nuclear weapons. There is a consensus amongst US elites, both public and private, to scuttle the rise of China. This has been discussed extensively here with links from Western media sources.

Lastly, why is Trump threatening countries with access to the US market with deals that they ban Chinese investments and investors in their countries? Is this economic and supply chain as well?

This is becoming madness and childish

US and China should simply close their boarders to each other and allow us enjoy our peace

China exports more to the US and will ultimately lose this war, the ideal thing is to get to the negotiation table and drop all these ego.

As big as China's economy has grown, it can easily be sabotaged by the US. US can easily blackmail African countries etc to stop buying from China

All Obama needed to sabotage Nigeria's fast growing economy was to support Bubu in 2015, now we are a shadow of ourselves
Seems you don't know of a thing called BRICS.
it's what helped Russia stay afloat after 25000 sanctions.
It's what's going to help china weather this trade war too, because since Trump's first term that he imposed the tarrifs, china has actually reduced it's exposure to USA and instead do more business with BRICS

I never said China was an angel. The issue here is don't through the baby out with the bathwater! Trump's so called cure is far worse than the disease.

I don't support the fact that Biden kept those tariffs but it had more to do with politics than economics. Biden wanted to have some leverage over China.

China's long term slump akin to Japan has already begun. Japan's long term decline began when it became a wealthy nation. China on the other is stuck in the "Middle Income Trap"

This is when a country is neither poor nor rich finds itself stuck in the middle, and can't dislodge itself.

Brazil and Thailand are two countries in this trap. Brazil is stuck there due too much red tape and regulation, high taxes, and a very generous pensions to retirees Thailand is there because it has a poorly educated workforce.

China is there today because it is an export dependent economy. Too much reliance on export has now become a curse. There is just so much you can export with 1.4bn people. No wonder there is overcapacity.

China needs its growth to be fuelled by consumer spending like the US where it accounts for 70% of economic growth unlike the 40% in China.
So, China itself has shot itself in the foot by relying on exports. It did try to change by encouraging massive investment in the real estate sector but the bubble created there has burst, leaving the very consumers needed to sponsor spending out of pocket, or to scared to spend. Consumer confidence is low.

Lastly, why is Trump threatening countries with access to the US market with deals that they ban Chinese investments and investors in their countries? Is this economic and supply chain as well?

Trump is being a bully. China has refused to be cowed by US, and that pisses Trump off. The cancellation of the Boeing deal by China was the last straw.

He is trying to cripple China with 245% tariffs buit even at 134%, it was already a defacto ban on Chinese exports to the US.

Breaking Beijing
Dragon is saying "Get off My Back!"

For far too long, the US has endured unequal trade with countries around the world. Other countries charged us significant tariffs while expecting the US not to reciprocate. This unequal playing field should have been made level shortly after WWII, but no president wanted to upset the economic applecart. Trump is willing to cause shockwaves to remedy the trade situation by means reciprocal tariffs.

As expected no countries wanted to accept US tariffs after enjoying a marked advantage for so long, but China took it the worst. They upped their tariffs against the US and Trump joined their game of one upmanship. The stock market could not stomach the idea of a trade war and subsequently dropped like a manhole cover tossed out of an airplane.

Presidents preceding Trump did not want to deal with China, and so the communists got away with whatever they wanted to get away with. They were allowed to take our jobs and moved our industries to China. The communists utilized their giant population to produce goods at a far lower cost than here in America. The Chinese haver stolen secrets from US corporations and reneged on deals. They lie and cheat without empathy. China lied to the world about the covid virus. After all, communist China considers the US to be their arch-enemy and so they took advantage of their adversary at every turn.

The CCP is ruthless. Their main concern is maintaining their power and crushing their enemies. Look how ruthlessly they murdered their own citizens in Tiananmen Square. They are also thin-skinned and always concerned with saving face. When they floated a spy balloon across America and Biden did nothing, they still complained when their property was shot down over the Atlantic. It should come as no surprise that they consider Trump’s tariffs as an insult and threat to their power, but in their zeal to ‘save face’ they committed a serious error. The communist Chinese need their best customer, America, to buy up all their cheaply-manufactured goods in order to keep their economy humming. If their economy collapses, the communists might face challenges to their power.

China even tried to recruit allies to stand up to the US. Australia firmly rejected such a notion and it’s likely the EU countries will reject an anti-tariff alliance with China as well.

Trump has been playing all of this perfectly. The scary dragon that is China will be tamed and the CCP will have no choice but to go to Trump's negotiating table.

Well, let's see how things go in the coming weeks. I am happy you accepted it had more to do with politics than economics. And yes, I do agree that China needs to consume more beyond raw materials from other countries. However, some countries such as the Netherlands and Japan restrict semiconductor equipment and chemical sales to China, so how do they expect China to buy goods from them? They literally do not want to sell what China wants to buy, but complain that China isn't consuming.

Cripple is an exaggeration. It will have significant effect. But a nation that built success with hardwork, grit and perseverance will not crumble/cripple because of $436bn market loss. Mind you, even at over 200% tariff, a significant portion of the goods from China that enters US will still be attractive to final consumer when you take away the crazy markup wholesalers put on goods. And that's what the Chinese manufacturers are doing now, creating a direct channel to final consumers
China's economy has been on a downturn recently, they have been masking it by giving inflated GDP growth, losing US market, the biggest parket in the world now that it is even having problem in European market will not only cripple their economy, it will sink it. Europe and America make up over 80% of their market.
Chinas economy was built with grit but remember that it is an economy built on exports, "grit" is not going to buy their products, people are!

Peter Navarro Defends Trump’s Tariffs – “We’ve Given Away Our Houses, Our Office Buildings, Our Food Supply, Our Farmland” (VIDEO)
By David Greyson – The Gateway Pundit – April 4, 2025

Peter Navarro was on “Sunday Morning Futures” with guest host Jackie DeAngelis on Sunday to talk about the benefits of President Trump’s tariffs.

“Let’s talk about the markets, the uncertainty out there, and the volatility. Do you expect it to continue?” DeAngelis asked.

“First rule, particularly for the smaller investors out there, you can’t lose money unless you sell. Right now, the smart strategy is not to panic, just stay in because we are gonna have the biggest boom in the stock market we have ever seen under the Trump policies,” Navarro said.

DeAngelis also discussed with Navarro about President Trump’s overall plans being pro-business and pro-consumer regarding tariffs, deregulation, tax cuts and spending cuts.
