Senior officers come from the NDA. And there's enough Igbo people there, of which they still get marginalized in. Senior officers don't come from recruits.

Years ago I put in every effort to join the Army and cleared all requirements but on the final day of selection I was dropped because I am from the South East, I saw guys from the north who couldn't complete the marathon race were all taken. I protested the injustice and they put me in cell in Kaduna claiming that I was stubborn. I lost my patriotic zeal for Nigeria that year, I came back and got admission to the university and the rest is history.
Igbo youths got tired of the segregation and simply abandoned making efforts to join the Army because they believed it was a waste of time as they won't be taken.

This sensitisation is not out of love for Igbo youths but because the Army is under pressure and overstretched by Fulani led bandits and Kanuri led Boko Haram and ISWAP across the country.
Also many believe that Igbos can fight brutally against Fulani without sentiments like General Ihejirika did as many northerners that saturated the Army currently are hesitant about shooting at fellow Muslims and we have a lot of repentant terrorists recruited into the Army by Buhari regime who may still be sympathetic to their terrorist comrades they left in the bush before "repenting"
