dollarnaira:Sorry, that would mean 2 in series and I will discard the 3rd one? Also, is there a controller you can recommend to accommodate all? |

BigDickProblems:The advice was given because they have MPPT controllers. Your thinking and calculations are largely right but you are forgetting that an MPPT works by lowering voltage and converting it into required amperage. So keeping it simple and going back to the example you chose: "supposed panel of 1872Watts (I.e 144V * 13Amps) is actually 1872 Watts (I.e 28V * 66.8Amps) (all in theory oo, and obviously MPPT must be rated over 60 amps) " So the the angle you missed is the fact that the excess voltage is being converted into increased amperage by the MPPT. PWM controllers do not have this ability. |

HeavenlyBang:Their best approach is to get appropriate number and sizes of storage tanks and pump water exclusively during the day. Get plenty of solar power and get a little lithium battery to ensure smooth power during the day. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by HeavenlyBang(m): 7:37pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
adrusa:Yeah, it may be better than trying to pump water strictly off batteries in the morning. That said, it all depends on how much water is used. It's a question of cost of batteries vs cost of buying new tanks plus building the structures to keep the tanks on. Batteries are relatively cheap these days and something like 45-60kwh of batteries should be adequate in the worst case scenario. That can be had for under 8m these days. Either way, this entire project is probably going to cost close to 20m. |

Emmalex83:Get a DC submersible pump |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Gshems: 11:51pm On Apr 16, 2025 |
Obnoxious2001:They should just get bigger tanks. That would be the most cost effective choice |

bkuranga:Such controllers wont come cheap; you will be looking at 100amp to 120amp. Best thing is to buy a single unit of panel more and do your connection as 2s2p |

Gshems:How do you fill up the tank? |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by HeavenlyBang(m): 12:48pm On Apr 17, 2025 |
Obnoxious2001:Pumping during the day. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Obnoxious2001(m): 12:51pm On Apr 17, 2025 |
HeavenlyBang:You will need to consider if they have the structure to accommodate the tank. By the way that will imply more energy to be spent pumping the water. They might not even have water when it's needed the most because electricity might not be available. DC pump/jacking pump Na the solution |

Obnoxious2001:Good afternoon, please how effective are these DC solar pump and what is the idea of the price? I have a friend that has a solar system that is okay for their basic needs, their only present challenge is pumping of water for their home use and for their fish pond. Their pumping machine is 1 hp. oladele239:With a little bit of ingenuity, one can actually pack individual devices into an all in one package. Valto has packaged something like that before. A sibling of mine packed 1.8kw, 1.28kwh, 60a MPPT charge controller into an all in one for an elderly family member of mine; all the major parts were purchased from linnov here. He can testify. |

Trippledots:simple to use, 12v 1kw hybrid inverter with output socket +12v 1.8kwh lifepo4 lithium battery @580k, note:tighened together with the battery, just plug to light for charging or connect 600w solar panels

Emmalex83:Someone advised you to have more storage tanks and pump water during the day for their use, and I agree. I think it's cheaper to store water than energy. Plus you can save more by using a pressure pump to send water to higher floors instead of constructing huge, expensive structures to hoist tanks up. Whatever energy is left after filling the tanks should be enough to operate the pump. |
