I was widowed at 38. I remarried at 45 with my 6 children: Nigerian lawyer reveals after women bashed a young widow who wants to remarry

A Nigerian lawyer and Director of Akwa Ibom State Government and Gender Based Violence Response Department, Ministry of Justice, Emem Ette, has revealed that she was widowed at 36 and remarried at 45 with her six children.
She disclosed this in a Facebook post on Thursday, April 17, 2025 while reacting to people bashing a young widow who seeks to remarry. Mrs Ette also encouraged young widows to remarry.
"I read in a group where a young widow asked if she could remarry and women were bashing and telling her 'to rest'. Da! My own take is; my dear young widow, if you see husband, by all means remarry o! I was widowed at 38. I remarried at 45 with my 6 children! I have a beautiful marriage and the best of husbands. One God has used to console, comfort and to hold me. (That hold eh! Very important!) Don't listen to people who haven't lost a husband before. If you decide to stay widowed, it is still okay because I know, God do care for widows. Anywhere you see Gabriel Ette give him a thumbs up. Agwo Annang ade agwo uko! Sai!

Remarriage is not a big deal either for a widow or a widower. The bigger issue is finding a partner who would respect and love your children the same way he/she would love his/her own. Na the children be my own concern.

At forty-five, a woman takes any man who comes her way. Hopefully, she is wise at the age. Anybody who comes is for companionship into old age.

Yeah, they are usually more sensible and cool headed at that age.

The way you guys generalize is appalling. If a 45 year old woman accepts any man because of her age, how come younger women are not getting the best men?

Besides, the man I see in that picture is her learned colleague and obviously has a solid profession. He is probably doing better than you.

Nobody should advise widows against seeking new marriage.

The truth is that situations of every widow is different and that is what will determine if they need to and how easy it's going to be for them to remarry. It's usually a case by case situations.

The fact that a well paid judge, a widow with 6 children remarry after 7 years does not mean all widows will be able to remarry.

She had something to offer, bring to the table and add value.
As a woman add value to yourself wether widowed,single mother etc and you won't lack any man of your choice.
Thats why You see a woman marrying up to 4 times yet some are looking for just one.

Inly the children can tell if you've found him or her. It is easier to find such a man than to find such a woman.

Speechless ... I just wish I can voice note to express myself on this particular topic but...

See eeh... as a man... make sure you take very good care of yourself and enjoy life while you still have breath..... that your wife will be bedded by another man once you kpai.

Now the children will have to adjust to calling the new man "dad"? Thank God all my parents are still alive and together because I can't imagine myself calling a stranger my mother or father... That's just my opinion.
