At the end of the day, you lawyers are no different from the corrupt administration you claim to be against. Your entire argument here is that the government is not legitimate, but the money that comes from it's accounts is legitimate. Then there's the "if Nigerians wants us to refund the money, then they should donate another money to us instead." Show me a better illustration of criminality.

If you guys really have integrity like you seem to delude yourselves, wouldn't it be a better statement of your stand against corruption to not have anything to do with the government funds in order to maintain that facade of independence and autonomy? Are you people trying to say that all the lawyers in Nigeria cannot contribute money towards hosting a single conference?
Keep shut! You ignorant fellow. You know nothing.

U people are not just straight forward.

Is the money given to NBA gift or for hosting??

What do dey find it difficult refunding??

To protect thier integrity
They have clearly stated the money was a gift.
Let Fubara come out to say the money was not a gift or there is a binding agreement, any agreement they had was with fubara, not this sole administrator, anything short of that is a waste of time & the sole administrator can not win the case in any law court without Fubara attesting it was not a gift or there is a binding agreement.

you seem not to understand the point made by the learned silk. He is not totally against refund but the sole administrator is not entitled to ask for a refund as he was not the one that gifted the money in the first place. And secondly, that the NBA does not recognize the legitimacy of his government.

Did you even listen to yourselves, Is Fubara govt not legitimate, does the law not permit donations and SR from state

Is IBA that gave the money, an illegitimate govt as no constitutional standi to question an elected Govt, NBA are fully right

IBA govt is illegitimate and if at all there would be a refund it should be to the legitimate govt of Rivers not some Wike chuachua dog.

I'd like to know what these donations are used for during the NBA conference. What will they spend 300 million naira on for a single conference? That conference is no longer meaningful. The NBA lost its voice once they started romancing politicians unlike the days of Alao Aka Basorun or even Priscilla Kuye. These days there are more prostitutes than lawyers at the conferences.

Take a look at this:

I have read the views of some of my colleagues that the NBA should return the sum of N300 million donated to it by the legitimate Rivers State Governor for the 2025 Annual General Conference of the Bar, which was initially scheduled to hold in Rivers State in August this year. Some of my colleagues went further to argue that the NBA should not collect money from the government and that the NBA must be self-funding.

Okutepa just shot himself in the leg with the above bolded statement. He said the money was donated by the governor, SIM. If he's smart enough, he should have said the money was donated by the Rivers State government. Authority is vested in the person(SIM) and power is vested in the Office (Governor).
How much does SIM earn as salary if he's donating as an individual? A former accountant general of the state. There should be a clear line between donation as an individual or on behalf of the state.

In another related development, read the bolded statement below by Okutepa.

But before returning to this, let me repeat what I said earlier on this N300 million. I have expressed the view that—even if the N300 million given to the NBA by Governor Sim Fubara was for hosting rights, as claimed by the illegal and unconstitutional Sole Administrator of Rivers State—it would be unconstitutional and unlawful for the NBA to return the money to the Sole Administrator.

Opportunity makes a thief, a thief without opportunity considers himself honest. The money might be meant for hosting right and as a professional why not return the money to the CBN as one of his colleagues suggested a few days ago instead of politising the fund thus making it look like they're on SIM's side. It's not professional.

Lawyers are terrible grin hiding under the excuse of the sole administrator being legitimate or not. This is just criminality hiding under a wig

No shame, no sense of dignity despite all the millions they make from their clients, they can't sacrifice enough to host their conference, chai

I don't know why we can't allow Common Sense to overrule our biased and personal judgement, when we know and see 🙈 what is wrong is wrong.
I don't think the NBA is managing this issue well, for in years to come, something like this may come up,so how will they deal with it?
It will not make sense because you are Wike's slave. Did you say this when Wike was bribing the judges with duplexes and mansions in Abuja. Is it under purview of Wike to build house for Judges. Where is the provision in the allocation. This is not the first time such donation is being made and the elected governor is the one that made the allocation. What's the problem of illegal sole administrator in this. You guys are truly out to instill illegality in our polity.

it is surprising that after going through the post this is what you can came up with.
The point here is that the NBA does not recognize the sole administrator in River State. They are arguing that act is an illegal and unconstitutional and because of that he lacks the power to ask for a refund. Another leg is that the money was not giving because of hosting right rather it is a willingly donation.

It seems Ibas the admin was given one instruction which was to do whatever Wike says. All his actions are things Wike would have done. For a soldier like him, who rose to the highest position in the Navy, I must say, this is shameful.

Refund to whom? A criminal administrator who isn't known to law? If they are to return the money they should do so to the Rivers State Governor and not an alien to law

but the illegitimate govt is paying workers salaries, including lawyers in the ministry of Justice, and the judicial system entirely and they never rejected it because it's from illegitimate govt. Funny people everywhere.

The money wasn't given by Ibas. It was given by the Fubara administration, so on what basis is the sole administrator who couldn't even give account of the amount in the state Treasury wants to collect money from NBA?
Ibas is as a sole administrator is unknown to the laws of our land.
