Gov Otti Unveils 10MW Power Project For ABSU, Declares End To Darkness In Abia by Metrix147(op): 9:43am On Apr 18, 2025
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the establishment of a 10-megawatt Independent Power Plant at Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), aimed at solving electricity challenges in the university and surrounding Uturu community.

The governor announced during a civic reception in his honour at Isuikwuato High School, Otankpa, hosted by the people of Isuikwuato LGA. He said the project is backed by the newly signed Abia State Electricity Law, which empowers the state to execute independent power initiatives without federal clearance.

“This initiative will enhance academic productivity at ABSU and improve power supply in Uturu,” Otti stated. He also revealed that key roads, including the Amibo–Acha and Eziama–Ndundu roads, have been included in the state’s rehabilitation plans and will soon receive attention.

The event turned into a political rallying point as top political figures including Hon. Amobi Ogah and Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa endorsed Otti for a second term, describing him as a transformational leader.

Hon. Lucky Johnson officially joined the Labour Party at the event in a major political shift, declaring that all political structures in Isuikwuato now support the party and the Governor.

Other dignitaries present—Attorney General Barr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, Mayor of Isuikwuato Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, and Hon. Uche Maduako—commended Otti’s strides in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and workers’ welfare and expressed confidence in his re-election bid.

Prominent figures from Isuikwuato and Uturu, including Dr. Onyinyechi Rufus-Obi, Mr. Ken Ahia (SAN), Dr. Chidi Mba, and Chief Chidiebere Uguru, also praised the Governor’s performance and pledged continued support.

The event also witnessed a mass defection of PDP, APGA, and AA members to the Labour Party, further strengthening Labour’s dominance in Isuikwuato.

Governor Alex Otti is obviously the best governor so far among the crop of governors and executives that emerged from the 2023 elections.

How I wish he could be allowed to serve as President of Nigeria, while Tinubu is suspended for two years using the same method he used to suspend Fubara so that Nigerians can have a breath of fresh air and finally witness real, purposeful, and impactful governance.

Abia State really got it right this time!

After geometric launched in Aba, my area of ogborhill had little to no light when Aba had “24 hours” power supply.

Fast forward to this year, they currently have power at a minimum of 18 hours everyday.

Power outage is restored in less than 45mins.

At this point, i will not call this a white elephant project if commissioned as geometric has cleared my doubt.

Abia didn't get it right rather it is the honesty and integrity of the INEC returning officer that stood her ground to declare the real winner of the election despite the offer made to her yet she stood her ground, something that mumu mamudu lacked

Re: Gov Otti Unveils 10MW Power Project For ABSU, Declares End To Darkness In Abia by kettykin:
If Abia State continues on this double-digit growth trajectory ,two scenarios—both seismic in implication—are inevitable.

First, Abia could erupt into a full-fledged industrial African behemoth, rendering the decades-long clamor for Biafra economically obsolete. With such development velocity, the Igbo nation might no longer need secession to leapfrog into prosperity—it would already be happening right here, in Aba, Umuahia, and beyond.

Second, Abia may very well rise as the star of Africa (japan or China of Africa)—its success will bring admiration, and equally, envy—from other African states. One of these outcomes isn't just likely. It is inevitable.

Let’s see the numbers and reality (these are the ones i can remember ):

A 300 MW Geometric Power Plant already online

A growing Electric Vehicle Assembly Plant, Roxxettes

A world-class airport at Nsulu, not a glorified landing strip

A Conference Centre in Aba will be ranking among the best on the continent

A planned Inland River Port at Ukwa, bridging the Atlantic and the hinterlands

A Fiber Optic Backbone fast enough to power a digital economy running from Ukwa via Aba to Ohafia/Arochukwu

A proposed High-Speed Rail Link to the economic capitals of Abia , Aba to river port and Airport

A Petroleum Refinery in Aba, not theory but soon operational

A Diaspora Village to reverse brain drain and welcome back capital

A full-scale Industrial Park in Aba for manufacturing, logistics, and tech

Put all this together, and you’re not just looking at a state growing faster than 10% annually—you’re looking at the fastest growing subnational economy in West Africa.

And that’s just the beginning. What’s coming could redefine governance in Nigeria: (these are the few i am suggesting )

Abia Airlines, modeled after the trailblazing Enugu Airlines

AbiaStartup funds – the next-level startup & business incubation hub

AbiaTelco – a homegrown telecom network for local and diaspora

Abia Shipping Lines, tapping into global maritime trade

AbiaPay – a fintech + payment gateway born for Africa

Abia Sovereign Wealth Fund, securing future generations

Abia Petroleum Corporation, our own NNPC—but leaner and smarter

If this trajectory holds—and it must—Abia will not just lead the South East. It will set the pace for a new African century.

Nigerian governors.still hold the key to fast development but most of them are sleeping, sleepy or confused 😕 🫤

How many states have flourishing agric sectors or potable water?

Streets are dirty. Roads are bad. Streets are dark at night. Beggars everywhere. Mad people roaming. The transport system is poor

Yet the average critic targets only the federal government

Prof. Nnenna Otti is not just a person—she’s a phenomenon. Her presence in Abia didn’t just supervise an election; it started a renaissance. If there is any justice left in the machinery of history, prosperity will owe her a debt—and it will pay in full.

As for Peter Obi, his momentum didn’t just tilt a political race.Of all the states touched by the Labour Party wave, Abia was the greatest beneficiary in values.

The truth is without these two—Otti and Obi—Abia would have sleepwalked back into the usual decay. Salaries would still be owed. Pensioners would still be dying in quiet dignity, unpaid and forgotten. It would have been corruption dressed as governance, again.
