South East Records Highest Female Hypertension Cases in Nigerian Households – NBS Report

The South East region has emerged with the highest proportion of female household members living with hypertension, according to the 2023/2024 General Household Survey (GHS) conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Data released by Statisense shows that 4.6% of households in the South East reported female members suffering from hypertension—the highest rate among all geopolitical zones. This was closely followed by the South South at 4.4% and the North West at 3.6%.

In comparison, male household members in the South East recorded a hypertension prevalence of 3.6%, which is also the highest among Nigerian men, ahead of the South South (2.9%) and North Central (1.4%).

The figures reveal a consistent trend of higher hypertension cases among women than men across most regions, with the South East leading on both fronts. The lowest female hypertension rate was recorded in the South West at just 0.8%, while the North East posted the lowest male rate at 0.9%.

The findings call for increased awareness, screening, and health interventions in the South East, particularly among women, to address what appears to be a growing public health concern.

Fake data

We don't even have the materials to conduct such kind of survey in Nigeria presently. Which which data as a reference case?

The data is derived from those who visit hospitals and health centers for treatment and management of their cases so it's very correct. It does not account for those who self medicate.

Marital responsibilities are often unevenly distributed, with women shouldering a larger share. This imbalance can leave men with more free time to pursue personal interests such as their hobbies, pursuing side chicks, advancing their careers etc. Women everywhere should start growing sense.

Having so much money is a big problem. Remember they are billionaires. When one has so much money than what the bank can keep, to keep it may become a source of worry.

Blindly sponsored fake data, How many women were examined? through out the country, How many Governments and private Hospitals were used? How many avenues for outreach were created all over each communities, state and country?, what was the Number of attendance per each state?? who were the professionals used,What degree and type of Hypertension were their diagnosis?? They should provide all this statistics and data before we can discuss which zone has more risk for heart disease in this country...Even Etsako women alone in Edo state with hypertension, are far greater in number than hypertensive women in the entire southeast not to talk of other densely occupied Yoruba lands..
