Fayose Condemns Tinubu's Emergency Rule In Rivers, Recalls Personal Ordeal Under by SimFubaraNews(op): 5:22am On Apr 19, 2025
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has strongly condemned the state of emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State, describing it as unconstitutional and a dangerous precedent.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, anchored by Seun Okinbaloye, Fayose distanced himself from the president’s decision, warning that the Nigerian constitution does not empower the president to suspend a sitting, duly elected governor.

"Seun, I do not support an emergency rule because I was a victim of emergency rule," Fayose said. "Former President Olusegun Obasanjo did that unjustly and unfairly to me, and the constitution of Nigeria does not empower the president to suspend a sitting, elected governor of a state. That I differ totally from the position taken by Mr. President."

Fayose's remarks come amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, with the emergency rule drawing criticism from several quarters, particularly from advocates of democracy and constitutionalism.

The former governor’s stance adds to the growing resistance from political stakeholders who see the move as an overreach and a threat to Nigeria’s democratic stability.

Lagos is will be the target of the next President. He will suspend the Governor of Lagos State of that time. The suspension will be renewed till 2031 general election.

That is how Tinubu will be striped from being the godfather in Lagos. grin

Tinubu is a president that listens to the people.

He should just lift it and let the people of Rivers state decide their fate.

The world is watching.
