Greedy Chinese always looking for the next economy to destroy with their cheap products. Our government should not let these guys flood our market with goods that our people already manufacture in sufficient volumes. If you know what Chinese cheap goods have done to American manufacturing industries, you will not criticize Trump for taking drastic steps against China. ![]() |

So Nigeria is the next dumping ground. Abeg we cannot prosper China at our own expense and standards of living. Our currency is already battered enough because we don't make what we need thoughtless of exporting enough. So more imports is the last thing we need. We are on the same boat with the United States on this matter. Cheaper imports means crushing local industries, more joblessness and increasing poverty and then the vicious cycle of cheap imports to soothe our psyche. We need work to afford proper stuff not loans to buy cheap imports. China should carry it's wahala elsewhere. They are ruining the economies of several countries by undercutting their ability to fend for themselves by industrial capacity. |

I hope you know there's nothing to celebrate in this. China wants to increase the natural resources they buy from you and in turn ship in more finished products back to Nigeria. |

Africa as a continent had benefited more from China in 10years than it had benefited from US since her independence. China is not about your political setup, she’s simply for business but US will gave you 1M dollars, stole resources worth more than 100M dollars from you still dictate to you who should govern you and who and who you should mingle with. Trump’s US can go to hell for now! |

Xi better swallow his pride and go negotiate with the US. Nigeria and all African countries together don't make up to 40% of the purchasing power of the United States. Africa wey never see food chop na him China they hope to use grow their economy. If this impasse continues for the next 6 months a lot of Chinese factories will shut down and millions of Chinese will be jobless. China can't afford this they have billions of populations to feed and their factories grinding to a halt will mean disaster. |

chiefolododo:Who is responsible for the US economic stagnancy? Just call a spade a spade! Corruption and capitalism are deep into the US that they forgot what made them the US. China was busy investing in infrastructure and its people, while America was bombing other countries. Now you say America is responsible for China’s development while they cannot even develop themselves. Outdated infrastructures littering everywhere. In 2025, they can’t even boast of a single speed train. |

Jaylord12:You have no purchasing power because you have no industries. And you have no industries because you cannot compete with cheaper imports. From textiles to agro processing, even the industries once domiciled and recognized as indigenous to Nigeria have somehow found their way to the far east. And until we can found a government that is pro Nigeria and completely sold out to the development of this country, that is patriotic IN DEED it is better to keep China at arms length to avoid total and absolute slavery. For if they could undermine and corrode American and European economies over the last half century, ours will be like shooting ducks in a barrel, a walk in the park for them. |

You’ve made a very important point, and I honestly think more people should be paying attention to this. We’ve talked so much about the US-China trade war, but the real opportunity for us Nigeria and Africa is right here with China looking our way. Now, $51 billion in investments, aid, and loans? That’s no small amount. If China is serious about diversifying away from the US and they're looking at Africa especially Nigeria as their next big market, we need to come to the table with our heads held high and a plan that benefits us. With the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCTA) now in place, this is the best time for African countries to build cross-border industries. It means we can move past just exporting raw materials and start creating value here on the continent. That’s where the real growth and jobs will come from. You also mentioned how Chinese contractors accounted for about 60% of construction work in Africa in 2019. That’s massive! But let’s not just celebrate that. Let’s use it as a sign that China is deeply invested here. So we shouldn’t be begging. We should be negotiating. Now, about Nigeria being China’s biggest market in Africa absolutely correct. That gives us leverage. We should be pushing for deals that reflect our position. The currency swap agreement you mentioned from $2 billion to $10 billion is a great start. It’ll help reduce our overdependence on the dollar and make trade with China smoother. But beyond that, we need to focus on capital goods. Let the things coming into the country be machines, tools, and tech that will help us grow industries, not just cheap finished goods. We want factories here, not just warehouses. If the Minister of Trade and Investment plays his cards right, and presents the right deal to the President, this could be a turning point. And if China is really as eager as it seems, they’ll approve it in a week. All we need to do is make sure Nigeria is smiling for the right reasons not because we got aid, but because we secured a smart, future focused deal. Let’s get the sweet part of the deal while the timing is perfect. femisplash: |

mastermaestro:Who took manufacturing to China? You make it sound like they were forced to. Same they doing to India now, and I know in the future, you will still blame India. Call a spade a spade. Americans destroyed America. In the quest for profit, they will do anything irrespective of the impact on the country. China will conquer them in everything in a free trade. They have the tech, engineering and resources. Please give them kudos. That’s a country that knows the capabilities of its population and heavily invested in it. Excluding services, What does America make in America that can compete in a free trade world? NOTHING! |

Fibonacci88:Both Xi and Trump will have to humble themselves. It's only a matter of time. They will get a deal done soon. Effects spreads to both places; Walmart, Boeing, Apple, Tesla, Ford, American farmers, Chinese factories, Chinese warehouses, electronic and toy companies are all going down very quickly. It's massive. |

HacheNoire:Oga, this is not an American problem alone. It is a global problem. China is even undercutting the French wine industry, the Italian leather industry, the German machine tools industry. Heck, they are making Ankara. at a scale no Nigerian industry can compete with even if the entire national budget is sunk into it. Yes, they have huge monetary reserves, cheap labour and political clout but they are also actively targetting specific industries for global dominance without a care for local effects. This has never happened in the history of international commerce and industry. |

Reference:So are you blaming them for their expansion and edge. I seem not to get you. Where was China 3 decades ago and look at how far they have come. Give respect to that country. Coming from behind and nailing Europe and the US. Look at the infrastructure the country has raised over its large expanse of land. Look at how it is making life easier for its population. Can we same about the US? Trillions spent on wars and cities getting rotten. Everything is about profit in the US. They don’t care who gets hurts. |

Wimkeh:Yet, China imported more than $2.5 trillion of products from other countries last year. Only less than what US imported which is more than $3 trillion. No other country even come close, no other country imported up to $1 trillion. Yes, China export a lot but the fact that China doesn’t import is a fallacy. |

No African currency matches the US Dollar in terms of purchasing power. Those whose currencies come close do not have the population. Nigeria that could have come to the rescue of China has a battered currency and therefore cannot sustain any transfer of China's US exports. |
