Tunde Bakare isn’t far from the truth, the 10th National Assembly has shown little independence, barely holding the executive accountable, and often acting more like an extension of the presidency than a co-equal branch of government. Rather than scrutinize laws or protect the people’s interests, many lawmakers appear more focused on personal gain and party loyalty. And as usual, the evil-minded among us won’t engage the substance of Bakare’s point, they’ll just attack the messenger, because it’s easier than confronting the truth with facts. |

If the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria were a piece of machinery, it would be a generator that hums loudly, guzzles fuel, and powers absolutely nothing. What Pastor Tunde Bakare described is not hyperbole—it’s the painful truth many Nigerians murmur under their breath daily. The 10th Senate has perfected the art of legislative abdication, a rubber stamp body so devoid of spine it cannot even twitch without Aso Rock’s remote control. Where is the oversight? Where is the dissent? Where is the boldness that once made the legislature the heartbeat of democratic defense? Instead, we now have a theatre of elite clowning, with senators more concerned about parking allocations and social media clout than with bills that protect lives or empower constituents. Worse, the illegal suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, simply for questioning budgetary opacity, confirmed what many feared: This Senate isn’t only useless, it’s hostile to accountability, allergic to intellect, and weaponized against progress. Bakare is right. Nigeria doesn’t just have a dysfunctional Senate; we have a parasitic extension of executive arrogance, cloaked in agbada and sustained by taxpayer naira. |

dre11:The man was making sense until I got to the above quoted paragraph. Where in hell has Natasha ever demanded accountability and transparency from the Senate? There is no record of her ever speaking against the 'rubber stamp' practices of the Senate where the Senate would approve any nonsense the Tinubu's government want. There is no record of her ever calling for probe in the way the Senate spend public funds. There is no record of her sponsoring a bill that is meant to ensure government officials are financially prudent and accountable for every kobo they spend. So which accountability and transparency is Bakare fantasizing about? What is on record is Natasha's crafty and manipulative nature whereby she broke the Senate rules and acted in a disruptive defiant manner just because of a new sitting arrangement which is the norm in the Senate. Sensing that her suspension was inevitable she decided to come up with some false accusations against the Senate president just to wipe up public sentiment and divert Senate attention from her impending suspension. Because of this particular error in Bakare's judgement, I hereby dismiss every other points he raised no matter how valid they may appear to be. It's obvious he is only trying to tell the public what they like to hear rather than what the real facts are. |
