The current security situation of our dear country is really very saddening and disheartening, to say the least. I'm not sure we've had this Bad in recent times. Each time I come online and I read news of herdsmen attack on our innocent, hapless and defenceless people, my countenance changes instantly. I feel sad, weighed down and downcast. Sometimes, I wish I had the powers to nullify every of their evil activities all over the country. A lot of people have become refugees in their own land. Farmers can no longer go to their farms. The heinous activities of these herdsmen account for the general rise in food items across the country. In Economics, we all know that the monetary value of a commodity rises when it is scarce. The herdsmen have made these essential items scarce as a result of the their cattles destroying farmers' crops thereby leading to shortages during harvest. Sometimes, farmers don't even get to harvest anything on their lands. A few years ago, we had all thought that it was a farmer-herders issue. Today, it is now an ethnic genocide. The current spate of unprovoked attacks by these bloodsucking, bloodthirsty marauding herdsmen is a serious challenge that shouldn't be handled with kid's gloves, as our political leaders are handling same. Our security agencies are trying but they are not doing enough. It is alleged that some of these guys we look up to for protection are culpable and complicit in these acts. Our states governors would rather come out to make politically correct statements than saying it the way it is. The govt seem alienated from the reality of things. They are indifferent. They keep telling us to defend ourselves. How do we defend ourselves with our bare hands? It is no longer about ranching because, like I stated earlier on, the situation is no longer about their cattle. Even if every state governor enacts the anti-Open grazing law, it still wouldn't change anything. Is state police the way out? |

Ban open grazing, Shikena!!!! We don’t see cows and cattle herded into London or Washington in broad daylight. We don’t even see that in J’borg or Nairobi in Africa. Why do we allow such anomaly in our country. 😳 |

I doubt if most of them are Nigerians. The stories flying that they are from other African countries may actually be true. The Northern borders are too porous. At this point it's better the president engages foreign mercenaries to fight this for a duration of maybe 6 months. Because if you say let's empower local vigilantes, they will go and kill the vigilantes and even the community leaders. That's why most are afraid of talking. |

Ok Boycott beef eating for a year. When their is no willing buyer, their is no reason to be in the bush to commit atrocities under the guise of cow herding. Trailer carrying cows with handlers/sleeper agents would end, making the task of arrest and prosecution easier |

Niger Delta Avengers also wrote on the same issue. They said they will bomb the pipeline if the FG dont meet their demands. So what will be the solution to this? |
