Kemshin's master would easily kill shishio. Anyway I don't think Shishio would defeat prime Kenshin. This current Kenshin is a pacifist that's why it seems like shishio is stronger.

That arc and especially the final battle was even far more epic in the anime...

Honestly you should watch that arc in the anime even if you don't watch the full series...

Btw I advice you watch the anime OVA called Trust and Betrayal...

It basically tells the story of Kenshin's past and how he got his scars...
It's just 4 episodes I believe...

That's not true. Shishio Makoto was careful to face the current Kenshin. He wouldn't even risk it not to talk of fighting prime Kenshin. Prime Kenshin was a beast.
