You are actually the one playing with very important scientific issue. A number of satellites belonging to even the most technologically advanced countries fail year in and out, yet their citizens do not make such an object of deluded enquiry as you do, simply because they research and understand the inherent risks and goals associated with space research and development. Some satellites are even lost during launching (they don't even reach the desired orbit) how much more Nigeria's case which was a successful launch but was de-orbited for safety reasons

In the case of NigComSat-1 which was launched in 2007, Nigerians who cared to know were duly informed in 2008 that it encountered a power supply problem which led to it being de-orbited in 2008. To de-orbit a satellite is to manoeuvre it into space 'burial gound' so that it will not crash into other countries active satellites. When a satellite begins to experience power problem, (which can be detected by engineers at ground stations) the best decision will always be to use the last available power to push it out of orbit, into a safe place (the burial ground) cos if the solar panels can no longer recharge and power the satellite, engineers at ground station will lose control of the satellite and it will start moving about in space without control. It can't receive tele command and can't send down telemetry to the group station. Nest option is to de-orbit. That's exactly what happened to Nigeria's satellite in 2008.

Meanwhile the satellite was replaced with NigComsat-1R by the Chinese company in 2011 since the lost one was duly insured.

Nigeria Sat-1 reached the end of its life cycle and we launched Nigeria Sat-2 and then Nigeria Sat-X. These are earth observation satellites.

We also launched NigComSat 1, a communications satellite. However, in 2008 NigComSat 1 ran out of power due to problems with its solar arrays. We then launched NigComSat 1-r.

We also launched EduSat-1.

At the moment NigComSat-1R, NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X are still working.

Yes it can get missing but there was a plan to relaunch and kore than 10 years later nothing have been done.
That sector is very vital to countries across the world as it can even be used to track down terrorists like Boko haram but it's being left by the authorities to rot away .

Truth be told, Nigeria has no business owning a Satellite 100% (ownership and maintenance) because of our bad infrastructure maintenance culture......we need to crawl before walking not to talk of running, let us put our house in order before any other thing. Even small Burkina Faso is on course to leave us behind if we're not careful

Wrong information. Nigeria sat 1 planning to launch in 2015 and as ar 2023 has not been launched.
