The ZOO don suffer
But that would have created a whole lots of opportunities in a right thinking society.
Zoos across the world generate so much revenues.
Most Nigerians would rather prefer to have a Pentecostal erected in place of a Zoo.

Re: Courses To Think Twice Before Studying In Nigeria by SmartyPants(m): 3:52pm On Apr 24, 2025
A lot of ignorance on display here. Does this one have any idea how much French interpreters can make in a single job translating for governments or international organizations? That zoology job may be your key to you people's beloved Japa. Or if you're entrepreneurial in nature, start a charity that takes care of abandoned animals in the name of science. The key is simply for everyone to have a vision behind their choices and a proper understanding of how to achieve their goals in the field.

THE PERSON WHO WROTE THIS DESERVES AWARD FOR IGNORANCE
INFACT, IT IS THIS KIND OF IGNORANCE THAT IS AT THE ROOT OF NIGERIA'S PROBLEMS.
I DON'T BLAME YOU, AFRICA DOES'T DO SCIENCE, THAT'S WHY IT CAN'T SOLVE IT'S PROBLEMS
Re: Courses To Think Twice Before Studying In Nigeria by Timfreds(m): 4:05pm On Apr 24, 2025
What the OP is aiming at is we studying courses that has practical value after graduating. Courses that we can use to employ ourselves if possible.
In the real sense, no course is useless.

Are they doing well in Nigeria or abroad?

The focus here is Nigeria
Re: Courses To Think Twice Before Studying In Nigeria by rigid123: 4:12pm On Apr 24, 2025
The OP is naive, only few of the listed courses will be irrelevant in the future. Infact, it is those studying big courses that should be concerned as AI will take over most of them. The courses below will continue to strive for a long time although they will be impacted in one way or the other by AI but they are not going away anytime soon.

1. Zoology
2. Botany
5. Geography
7. Home Economics
10. Archaeology
11. Forestry & Wildlife
12. Transport Management
13. Education
14. Fisheries
15. Peace and Conflict Resolution –
16. Psychology
19. Anatomy
20. Biochemistry
21. Microbiology
22. Agronomy
24. Chemistry
27. Tourism & Hospitality
28. Industrial Mathematics
29. Cooperative & Rural Development
30. Pure & Applied Physics

Courses taught in universities are meant to align one to a field of study, but to navigate living in Nigeria or anywhere else, practical experience is key.

This is because Nigeria is still a jungle of savages. Why you no add engineering? I made sure none of the people after me had any interest in engineering "na me know book pass" syndrome. After years of wasting my life studying engineering, I am now more or less a technician and the complete illiterates who did not even go to any school are the ones Nigerians call "engineer" everywhere. Abi all those phone repairers for computer village, wetin una dey call them?

This country is a mess. My only relief is that though I had no proper guidance growing up, I have guided those after me aright, even if they don't know enough to have gratitude

they’re doing well

I mean my closes pals in school then
Cause I can’t speak for everybody

Two work with ministry of land and survey
One Work work with a private survey company
And the other has he’s own survey company and as an architect too while me I left naija. Although In the beginning it wasn’t easy but we all doing well. Geography is a great course

Without geography a lot of things won’t work in Nigeria and around the world in fact geography is the bed rock of everything there is

There are engineers without jobs. There are unemployed lawyers. I know accountants looking for a job.......study whatever you want but ensure you have connection as you can work anywhere.

Let's call a spade a spade

Your Geography degree did not get you a job with Amazon.

Anybody abroad even people without degrees can work in a warehouse in Amazon.

grin

Una da yeye for this nairaland Ooooh

Op no no say here in Nigeria no course is more relevant than the other, it's matter is connection.

Most Keke riders on the streets of Nigeria are engineering graduates.

Nurses and medical doctors are still searching for for jobs above 250k monthly salary but no connections.

What matters in Nigeria is business and legit life surviving skills.

Me like dis I be MBBS graduate Ooooh, but no be wetin da pay my bills
As a Medical personnel, find your way to the UAE, l have a Dr Friend that was earning peanut in Abuja, he arrived Dubai, did the DHA qualifying exams, passed , was employed in Dubai earning l think about 8000 AED as at 2017 oo , he later registered for PLAB exam passed and went to THE UK , got another Fantastic offer in England around 2018/2019, l think he is a British citizen today, my point is that with your medical degree, don't waste your destiny in Nigeria ooo , Nigeria of today is not about the Degree but God, who you know, your contacts etc otherwise The person will waste his destiny applying for jobs that have either been sold out already or given through the backdoor to children of the ELITE, although there is exceptions to every RULE 😜
