The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has dismissed claims that the ruling party is steering Nigeria towards a one-party system.

The party’s secretary defended the APC’s political activities and dismissed suggestions of state-backed intimidation of opposition parties.

Earlier on Wednesday, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, Monday Onyeme, and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, along with commissioners and key stakeholders in the state.

When asked whether he was concerned by growing perceptions that the APC and the current administration are turning Nigeria into a one-party state, Basiru retorted.

“How can we turn Nigeria into a one-party state?” he quizzed. “The country is not our making. The policies of the country are not our making.

“I think the problem with Nigeria is that we don’t seem to have people who are very serious in opposition, who take their job seriously. You cannot expect the ruling party to do the work of the opposition.”

Challenging the media, Basiru urged journalists to assess the inactivity of opposition parties, contrasting it with the APC’s ongoing efforts to build a robust, grassroots structure across the country.

“Tomorrow is a working day—go around the headquarters of all other political parties and see whether you find any activity going on.

“One of the cardinal policies of our party since Abdullahi Ganduje assumed leadership is to build a functionally efficient party structure in every ward, local government, and state in Nigeria. And that is what we are doing,” he stated.

True talk.

If the other parties aren’t doing their job you can’t blame APC for being the only one working hard and getting things done.

God bless Tinubu. God bless APC. God bless Nigeria.

Even Fubara is currently contemplating defection to APC, and we all know the pressure he is facing.
Re: No Intimidation Of Opposition Parties, Defections Product Of Hardwork - Basiru by Babatunjo:
Nigeria has, for all intents and purposes, become a one-party state.

Ironically, it's the youths—always loudest on social media—who are the worst off. Despite their numbers, energy, and intelligence (which clearly surpass that of the current ruling class), they’ve failed to organize themselves into any meaningful or formidable opposition.

With elections looming in 2027, the opposition remains dull and uninspiring.

And then there’s that symbol on Tinubu’s cap—an ouroboros. That says a lot. It reflects a mindset set on domination. He’s on a mission to conquer Nigeria, and honestly, he just might succeed. Whether that will be good or bad for the country? That’s still up in the air.

Nigerians are expecting the APC to give power to the opposition party. No one is going to give away power. You have to work to get it. Those who form APC worked to wrestle power from PDP. It was not given to them. IF the opposition want power they must work to get it.

How many of them have efcc case apart from okowa efianyi of Delta state? Is a senator from edo state on the platform of labour party also intimidated by efcc? Because he is being rumored to be nursing an ambition to defect Lp for APC. Among those who defected, please can you name ten of them with efcc case apart from okowa?

Who is funding or bankrolling PDP currently?, Nobody. For LP, is Abia state buoyant enough to fund party structures across the country. Peter Obi who should be also be helping out it, is only more bothered about drilling boreholes in the North and busy junketing up and down to Italy. No accountability for Obidients donations at the last election till date.

In Nigeria political geniuses or strategist or masterminds are those that can rig elections, play dirty politics or do anything to win an election. They are never the ones to bring about good governance, ease the suffering of the people or ensure the nation's growth and development

The elders say, “A man who chases away all other drummers so he alone can beat the drum will soon tire, and his rhythm will grow bitter in the ears.” Yet in this land of many tongues and many paths, we now see only one road being cleared—the road that leads into the belly of the ruling party.

Day by day, those once called opposition, those who once roared like the leopard and spoke truth to the elephant, now bend their backs like the hyena in the presence of meat. They say it is for “unity,” but even a blind man knows when the wind smells of fear.

When the goat begins to dine with the lion, the forest knows that hunger has removed wisdom from the land.

The danger is clear: if this continues, we will not have a country, but a choir where everyone sings the same song even when the house is on fire.

To those who defect not for the people, but for their pockets: “The chicken that dances for the hawk has written its own funeral song.”

Let this land not become a forest with only one tree, or we shall soon find ourselves with no shade, no fruit, and no birds to sing.

Let the people remember: “Even the blind man knows when the market is empty.” Nigeria must rise above this dance of deception, or risk becoming a place where truth, like the opposition, is buried without a grave.

A lot of our politicians are indisciplined but I don't think they can read the handwriting on the wall. What Obi proved in 2023 is that you don't need a party to win and Nigerians will vote for independent candidates indirectly. E go shock them
They will be shocked to think that it will be Nigerians against them. It's good how they are showing where their bellies lie before 2027. Let's separate the wheat from the chaff.

When are we going to see one person with principle in politics like Tinubu. Someone who will not defect and maintain his stand, build party from regional perspective into national level?
Raise army of political gladiators , finance elections across states ?

Tinubu is a political enigma. Thou he is not governing well to the betterment of Nigerians

You are not from Delta, so you won't understand. Even the incumbent is under the EFCC radar, he was the speaker during Okowa's tenure, so all the approvals happened within his time. Just leave matter for "Mathais"

The Edo senator, has his case with U.S government for fraud and he is been debarred. If you don't know, Google his name.
It is Nigeria's pattern of politics, if gets to your turn do what is best in your mind QED.
