Atiku Or Peter Obi: Who Should Lead The Coalition? by Penguin2(op): 3:22pm On Apr 25, 2025
With the line of opposition blurring following the defection of some Delta Governor and Former Governor and others, with other expected defections, it’s now obvious that those who would be remaining in whatever would remain of opposition parties after defections, would have to work together to stand a chance against Tinubu in 2027.

But the question is, who would be the coalition’s best bet against Tinubu: Atiku or Obi?

Like someone said, with 13 governors and 38 senators, Atiku could only stay ahead of Obi with about 800k votes while Obi garnered over 6million votes without a single governor nor senator nor House of Rep or Assembly Member.

With the data above, isn’t it obvious who commands higher following even without stakeholders support?

Again, the zoning sentiments says it’s still the turn of the South in 2027 which gives Obi an edge.

Should the coalition make the mistake of adopting a northerner (Atiku or anyone else), then they may have played into the hands of Tinubu as the election will truly become a north vs south battle and I doubt the north will win that battle.

But with Obi, the coalition will be certain that Southeast and Southsouth is locked down for Obi. Add the votes of northern christians and then the north only has to convince the core north to vote Obi as well, and the numbers will be too much to rig.

But these are just my views. What do you think? Who is best fit to lead the coalition?

Re: Atiku Or Peter Obi: Who Should Lead The Coalition? by SmartPolician:
Any coalition that doesn't involve governors cannot win a presidential election. Nigerian institutions are so weak that anyone can rig the election and get away with it. As regards who will lead the coalition, I personally think Peter Obi should, but Atiku wants to be president by all means.
Re: Atiku Or Peter Obi: Who Should Lead The Coalition? by fergie001(mod):
Atiku is already in the forefront of it, driving it. Obi hasn't joined the fray yet.

I think Obi is still sceptical of the agenda of the drivers.

But I believe soon, the pressure will start mounting on Atiku to shelve his ambition of someone else.

Analysts are already blaming him for being the architect of PDP’s current woes. Making him the candidate of the coalition will just be a joke and an easy ride for Tinubu.

I disagree.

How many governors did Obi have when he won 11 states and the FCT in 2023?

These things are just false narratives that they plant into our heads to make us think the governors are almighty.

But 2023 showed that the people are the structure. Forget where the governor is standing, if the people collectively resolve where they want to go, there’s little to nothing a governor can do.

You have no idea how powerful governors are, especially when they have good relationship with the Commissioner of Police and the GOC of the state's military barracks.

In short, elections can only be free and fair if the governor of a state wants it to be. Where he wants otherwise, he will mobilize security operatives and men to rewrite the results and nobody can do anything about it.

Dey play!!

No coalition is needed.

When Nigerians are ready, they will do the needful. Millions of people sat at home without voting. These are the people that can make that difference.

Forget 50 governors joining APC or babablu.

No matter who leads the coalition.....there will never be a possible outcome for them but for APC.

In politics, politicians will always align with people they can get deals of winning elections with.

Tinubu is holding down his position well... Tinubu is not GEJ.

Depends... Do you want to just win?
Then pick Atiku

Have an agreement to hand over to South East after 4 years... Then pick A South South Vice
Yes South East can sacrifice that

If you want to win and make a difference

1) north backs Obi to do 4 years

2) north present an educated vibrant liberal candidate preferably someone with good reputation and background in economics

Obi will not run as Vice.
Atiku will not give it all up.

They contest individually, Tinubu wins...... God keeping us all alive, it's 2031.. this one otilo. Even if they want to team up, they have done it when the horses have left the stable.

Well.... it will be hard.

Peter Obi focuses only in his region. The same mistake Buhari made.

Atiku is a northerner and this is the time for south.

There's no southern top politician that would come out to challenge Tinubu. Except Tinubu wants it that way.

Also, there's absolutely nothing wrong winning the election without opposition.

Lol.....

Like I said..... I voted for him... same way many northerners voted for him agaisnt their own son, Atiku.

Let's see how that will unfold in 2027...

After Peter Obi won those 4 states in the North, did he ever thank them or appreciated them after the elections was over?

Just a reminder that a sitting governor, Enugu state governor, lost his senate bid to Labour Party candidate. A party without a governor at the time.
Re: Atiku Or Peter Obi: Who Should Lead The Coalition? by Godjone(m): 4:57pm On Apr 25, 2025
PDP gambled away their chances of retaining the presidency in 2023 for not granting Obi their ticket .

Obi within a very short time was able to organize the labor party and the performance was wonderful. At a point, INEC have to switched off the server because Obi is almost winning.

The enemies of the PDP who sent Obi out of the PDP, the chief among them was Wike. After killing the party that made him, he ran to the party he called cancer to accept a political appointment.
.
The only formidable candidate who tinubu and the APC fears most is Obi and it is only him that can dismantle jagaban. If PDP like they should bury the remains of PDP by awarding their primaries to atiku.

Were you in Gabon when Peter was touring the north, drilling boreholes in the north, engaging Almajiri children, and engaging northern stakeholders among other altruistic deeds?. You have the right to support your candidate, but you do not have to lie and denigrate another.
