OK, just read a bit more about it.

It appears the Onojie misbehaved and was removed, someone close to him then decided to organise a group to say they were Ndigbo.

Good for them that some of them are now claiming Ndigbo as a result, hope we don't hear stories that touch when their second class Ndigbo citizenship is confirmed by Ndanambra and Ndimo.

Great.
Claiming Igbos but they speak Igbo and bear Igbo name.

Even their Benin neighbors don't hear them but I hear them perfectly.

I remember when I was very young when there was crisis in there kingship it was the oba of Benin palace they ran to and not ohanazi
It is bcus of the Closeness between Oba Erediawa and the Dein of Agbor's Father in the 1970's. smiley

And perhaps the Geographic closeness b/w the two kingdoms. smiley

Ika Language have NO similarities with Bini. smiley

Ndi Anambra or Imo (colonial creation) is not a tribe/clan of Igbo nationality. The Ngwas, Aros, Owere, Nankas, Orlu, Afoikpo, Wawa, Obosi, etc, are people that make up Igbo ethnicity.
OK thanks for the clarification, point about certain people feeling superior still stands.

I am intrigued, when did the Ìgbànke Community get forced to declare themselves Benin, why exactly can't they celebrate their being Ndigbo without making references to not being Obvedo, what have I missed exactly?

Do they have an Onojie in their community, I genuinely would be grateful for someone to tell me what is going on?

Edit: Apparently the Onojie was deposed and he or someone close to him remembered they were Ndigbo at that point and rallied a few people to protest.
They had Eze, and Obi as Royal until 1982, when they were hoodwinked into adopting Enojie and claim bini. But recently, Oba of Benin suspended their Enojie and they quickly rejected it and reverted back to Eze and Obi and announcing they're Igbo and that their Kings are monarchical, not by appointment or anything. And that they're not beholden to the Oba of Bini, as they're autonomous and have different culture. They definitely didn't know what Enojie even mean. They were lured into adopting it.

Who are you to speak for Edo people??

Igbankes came as visitors and they are free to go back where they came from.
They were never visitors.
They were always with their kinsmen - the people referred as Delta Igbo.

It was state creation dichotomy that placed them in Benin.

Benin people are invaders , they invaded little clans and tribes conquered them and imposed their kings on them, if you read the history of every clan or minority tribe that was once under Benin kingdom their history starts with they running away from the oba of Benin
Okay
Why didn't Benin Kingdom invaded and spread beyond present day Edo state?
I believe the Benin Empire wasn't interested in taking territories but rather getting tributes

Good, any person with true igbo blood not mixed igbo blood should reject any manipulation and intimidation of accepting what don't belong to you, only go with what belongs to you, that's your family/heritage,no one will take away from you.the igbanke people can still write to fed.govt to add them back to Delta state where they belong before.

Almost the whole of present day Niger delta was under Benin empire by conquest that's why almost all the clans and tribes in the Niger delta can not tell their history without mentioning Benin, from agbor , to ika , to ikwerre , to Onitsha etc all these clans and tribes paid homage to Benin kings cause they were conquered by Benin at some point

Igbo as an ethnic group is a concept created as a result of colonialism. Igbo is not a race/tribe/ethnic group but a language spoken by a people of diverse origin and culture that live in a contiguous geographic space
Who is this spreading bend-down-select linguistics Anthropology? Ndígbo is an ethnic group, they have always seen themselves as such even during the Aro confederacy 100s of years before colonialism. They share same biological make up, same language structure and the cultures are the same in it's core!

This is one of the reason other South south tribes don't trust igbo's.
Average Igbo Person sees himself as been wiser than other tribes.
Igala's are indigenous to Anambra and Enugu
But you will never hear Atta Igala make issues out of it.
Who is this ? Oya mention the South South people that don't trust Igbos. Is it the Efik people? Ibibio? Oron? Which of the SS are you referring to?
So the igbanke embracing their igbonness now breds distrust? Why are you people always so bitter?

Why are you SW people always so bitter whenever a group of people identify with the Igbo?

Has anyone ever claimed that igala is Igbo? No one has ever misidentified the igala as Igbo, everyone knows who they are and how they ended up in Enugu.

So identifying as Igbo means that they are seeing themselves as wiser than the other tribes? You're just suffering from inferiority complex and bitterness. Go to Odumeje's church tomorrow morning for your healing.

They're all over social media debunking it. Igbanke has always insisted that they're not Benin by ethnicity. They've always insisted that they're Ika. The Igbo expansionist movement led by Nna Meh TV, Spirit Almighty and the rest contracted Azuka Okah and formed the akiko Uwa group which They've used for propaganda for a few years now. There's lots of sponsorship coming from certain Igbo people and Ned Nwoko was also involved. We've infiltrated their groups and I have a lot of information into what's actually going on. Expansion and access to the sea in eventual biafran independence. They're willing to go to any length to achieve their dreams. We the indigenous Ika people are watching and we'll act proactively because we won't permit anyone to play politics with our identity
How much are you being paid. I will increase it by 400% you are suffering for no reason. Come lemme give you a better job

The igbo lovers that cared to know, already knew that Igbankes and some other clans there (that should do their own research), are true nwafors. They are Angels.

Slavery, especially late arab to transatlantic slavery, really altered the igbo unity. While the civil war, increased the division. Igbos everywhere became an endangered specie. If you were igbos around hostile neighbors, you will be demeaned and forced to renounce your great tribe, and still not absorbed to the haters tribe. Igbos in these hostile areas all over Nigeria , still stay humble and by the grace of chukwu okike abiama, they maintained any culture that they could.

The great Igbo tribe is more than a case study. It is bigger than we all can imagine. The Igbo spiritual connection is like no other tho. Only nwafors have that spirit.

Igbos are indigenous to Igbanke, dem no be visitors looking for refugee status. so may God continue to bless the great people of Igbanke. Your Igbo kits and kin, are with you in all levels. Stay humble, and do what you can for general progress.

Some hole in the brain people up before my post, are using their small local govt tribes to be stretching neck; and supervising igbo division.; so that, they can easily suppress and oppress the igbos.

Just a reminder, igbos no dey claim people wey no be their own. Our own na our own.
Most igbos no hate others, but igbos no dey wake up go claim people. Most igbos view calabar/ibibio/annang/efik/etc as allies. Our sibling na our sibling, that one na God plan.
Any one igbo person from anywhere can lead all igbos in many great ways.

Why is it only in Igbo unity that haters go on sleepless night override. During Ikwerre/etchie/opobo time, dem go overboard, now during Igbanke, dem dey go insane. They want siblings to be estranged to each other. But Chukwu pass dem.

These Igbo oppressors, go as far as telling the igbos that some nwafors, are igala. Can you imagine that? How can Igbos that came back from igala, especially during the war, become igala.

Make everybody chill and mind them business. The Igbos know themselves in Nigeria, for the most part. So, let the great Igbo tribe exist.

Igbos unity is God's plan.

People have said they are not igbos, why force them. I feel so bitter and pained right now.

Moreover Mbata is not the Authentic Ohanaeze PG.

I am very angry and sad reading this. Igbanke people are not igbos.

They are ika ibo of former Delta state now Edo state
Re: Ohanaeze Ndigbo Hail Igbanke Community For Embracing Igbo Roots by hatchy: 8:57am On Apr 26, 2025
Foolish Igb,o. id'ot. So those in Bini can trace their origin in Igboland, yet Ikwerres are Igbos, they are not from Bini.
You see, that is our problems with our Igbo neighbours. They are always changing the narrative to suit themselves but when you challenge that narrative they hate you to death.
Azuta Nbata from Eneka clan, Ikwerre man took the position of Ohaneze President because of selfish political interest and they allowed him, not because they love him, but to show that we own you.....you are mine. They do it to show the Ijaws that they own Port Harcourt. They will soon drag the sea port which is their major aim with the rest of the Rivers people. This is their politics.

Most disliked tribe.

Coincidentally, in a recent video that I saw just yesterday, the entire Igbanke folks in the current Edo State are Ikas and NEVER claimed in the video to be Ibos BUT ONLY resisted the further usage of Bini language at every political and cultural gathering including the Enogie they claimed was imposed on them from Benin. They also called for a merger with Delta State in anticipation of an Anioma State. Anioma State if created would include several distinct communities with Benin-Edo, Esan-Edo, Yoruba (Olukumi), Igala (Ebu is an Igala-speaking community where Agatha Amata of the "Inside Out" fame hails from, and Illah is where the biological mother [of the Lagos State-born lawmaker who is paternally from Olowogbowo area of Lagos Island, Desmond Olusola Elliot] hails from along with the iconic former NTA broadcaster Frank Olize. Ebu and Illah are some of the Igala-associated communities with Igala descendants in Delta State. Illah is ALSO an original Igala language-derived name), and lastly migrant Nri ancestral descent. Delta North (or Anioma) is a unique and culturally diverse geographical area and CANNOT be included as part of the South East region as suggested online and offline by highly uninformed and clueless young Ibo irredendists from the South East of Nigeria. Period.

In reality, Igbanke is part of Agbor in Ika South West LGA of in Delta State but was ONLY carved out of Ikaland (from what was originally the Midwest State, then Bendel State) into Edo State. The military government of the legendary Nigerian Civil War veteran, Samuel Ogbemudia played a strong role in a lot of legacy projects in the Old Bendel State, and some still think the influential Samuel Ogbemudia may have influenced the inclusion of Igbanke into what is now Edo State because his biological mother is from Igbanke.
