Serve lavish as how? Did u think that Catholic Church is like Winners where GO live lavishly? Even with all money Catholic have, their Pope does not have private jet. He carry his bag by himself. I'm not Catholic but from my experience, they live normal life.

It's a lesson in focusing on what what's really important. The room served its purpose for him: sleeping. He slept alone, so he maintained a bed that fit just one person. There's a deep spiritual meaning here.

His office demanded that he should be served. But when it came to what he had control over, where he sleeps, he implemented his worldview.
