Basicend:After reading the article, use your brain. Buhari paid approx $8.1 billion to $14.4 billion annually in oil and Forex subsidies Nigerians all benefited from cheap petrol and dollars Tinubu is not paying any subsidy, and he is also collecting numerous loans. Tinubu does not have any money in the account to show for not paying subsidy. Nigerians are buying expensive petrol and dollars. Where is our money going to ? Please answer that question ? |

Bobloco:We no longer operate ECA now. All the balances have been drawn down to Sovereign wealth fund. NSWIF is now managing any excess from sales of crude and other national savings. |

Phnuel007:Awesome — here’s a simple timeline showing how Nigeria’s Excess Crude Account (ECA) balance dropped over the years: Timeline of Nigeria’s ECA Balance - 2014: ➔ Around $4.1 billion in the ECA. (Still fairly strong after the oil boom years.) - 2015 (Buhari's first year): ➔ Drops to about $2.26 billion. (Oil price crash + heavy withdrawals.) - 2017: ➔ About $2.3 billion. (Some recovery attempts but still withdrawals happening.) - 2018: ➔ Falls to around $631 million. (Massive use for state bailouts and projects.) - 2020 (COVID-19 pandemic): ➔ About $72.4 million. (Oil prices crash again, government struggles.) - March 2023: ➔ $473,754.57. (Basically empty.) - April 2025: ➔ Still $473,754.57. (No real change — account is frozen at a very low balance.) What this shows: The ECA went from billions of dollars in 2014 to just half a million dollars in 2025 — a 99.99% wipeout in about a decade. |

malali:Unku, this is the last time I am replying to you. Excess Crude Account and subsidy have nothing in common. There is no where in the Nigerian constitution that say Excess Crude Oil receipts should be used to fund subsidy...if a President chooses to do so, it is up to him. As I said in my last post to you, money cannot enter that account unless it is the proceeds of selling Crude Oil over what we budgeted for the year. Unfortunately oil prices keep falling and we keep setting our benchmark price to high so the receipts in that account cannot grow. |

Timmi:Oga Timmi I didnt omit it. The point i am focusing on is that 1-Buhari paid oil and Forex subsidy which is approximately $8.1 billion to $14.4 billion annually 2-Nigerians enjoyed cheap petrol and cheap dollars. 1-Tinubu is not paying subsidy in 2 years, so he has saved approximately $16.2 billion to $28.8 billion (In 2 years) 2-Nigerians are suffering from expensive petrol and expensive dollars 3-The federation ECA is still depleted. So where is the money going to ? During Buhari we enjoyed the subsidies, now Nigerians are suffering and there is no savings to show for it. Are we suffering in vain ? Are they looting the money ? |

anonimi:1-Obasanjo paid the Debts 2-Obasanjo arrested and prosecuted people like IG of Police for corruption 3-Obasanjo went after corrupt governors 4-Obasanjo paid the debts, paid the subsidies, built infrastructures and left substantial money in the foreign reserves. Please do not compare Obasanjo to this current APC disaster. |

malali:You’re an illiterate. Do you even understand what Excesd crude account is all about? Is it an account for keeping unpaid subsidies? You obidients make the loudest noise yet you all are so ignorant about the processes of government. ECA is meant for saving excess proceeds resulting from sales of crude oil. That is, when crude oil prices go above budgeted benchmark, the excess is paid into the ECA. During the Jonathan era, governors complained about the illegality of the ECA as it has no legal basis. Jonathan in response passed the Sovereign wealth fund act into law and created the NSWIF to manage any excess crude and all national savings. Since then, no kobo has gone into ECA again. The balance has been drawn down to either sovereign wealth fund or to other uses. I hope you’re now better educated on the subject of discussion. |

AndroBlaze:🧠 In short: When there were subsidies, Nigeria couldn't save because it was burning oil money to keep petrol cheap. Now that subsidies are gone, there's still no savings from the government’s. Meanwhile, the ECA is empty, and Nigeria remains vulnerable if another oil price crash happens. |
