The President of the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation and former President of the Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO), Dr. Jibril Mustapha, has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos, Mustapha urged Jonathan to heed growing appeals for his return, describing him as the leader Nigeria urgently needs to navigate the country’s current challenges.

He said: “As the nation prepares for the 2027 elections, the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation believes that now is the time for all stakeholders to unite behind a candidate who can genuinely represent the interests of all Nigerians.

“We urge former President Goodluck Jonathan to consider this call and step forward for Nigeria as a candidate who can unite our country and lead us toward a brighter future.”

Mustapha stressed the need for a leader who embodies integrity, inclusivity, and a deep commitment to national unity.

“Nigeria is at a crossroads. We are grappling with significant issues that threaten our stability and progress. We need a leader who can bring all Nigerians together, regardless of their background,” he said.

Mustapha praised Jonathan’s previous tenure, noting that he demonstrated a firm commitment to democratic values and prioritised the welfare of all citizens.

He added that the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation firmly believes Jonathan possesses the vision, experience, and leadership qualities needed to guide Nigeria toward a stronger and more unified future.

He is the only southern candidate that can do one term , bringing another fresh southerner will jeopardise the opposition plan to win . Most northern politicians will rather stick with Tinubu who has only 4 more years than to support a new person who will want to use 8 years

Subject to the proper interpretation of the relevant laws, GEJ contesting in 2027 will be the strongest challenge to bat.

He hasn't oo,he only did one term , the term that would have made it two terms was the one he lost the election. If he had won in 2015 then he would have done two terms . He competed Yar adua tenure ,then contest his own ticket . He still has one term of 4 years left ,reason why the opposition see him as a viable option because he won't seek another term after the one he wins
