In 1999 when OBJ and Falae were the main contenders, Falae of AD was seen as the choice of the South West and he got over 77% of the votes cast there.

In 2003 when it was OBJ vs Buhari (major contenders), the South West gave OBJ over 90% of its votes. Mind you, Ojukwu was on the ballot but the SE went with OBJ.

In 2023 was the only time the SW did not vote massively for thier 'perceived' candidate. And that tells a lot about how bat is seen by even his own people.

The only south west state that voted Obi is Lagos, other south west state , obi scored below 5% of the total votes cast.

The places were Obi won in Lagos are the cosmopolitan areas where enlightened people exist like island, ikeja, Papa, kosofe etc. I will pull out Lagos results for everyone to see.

My tribe has always voted PDP since 1999 even if it had a goat as a presidential candidate because our tribesmen were at the forefront of the party. Ojukwu was a frontline candidate of Igbo tribe in the 2003 presidential election but got only 28% of votes there. Obasanjo got 65% of the votes from the SE in 2003, Buhari got only 7% even with an Igbo Vice Presidential candidate

Thanks so much for this , only Oyo and Ogun, which might be driven by the high population of non indigenes in Mowe, Ibafo, Agbara, Ota etc so this collaborates my earlier post, you can compare notes with votes Obasanjo got in the South East when he contested in 1999 and in 2003

Looking at this results alone, a sane, logical and truthful mind will know that 2023 is one of the best election we've heard in this country, unfortunately, the obidients and some bitter losers made it seems as if it was rigged, I don't see 2027 being fair as the one of 2023, its going to be heavily monetized, Kudos to PMB for that election. posterity will judge.

Presidential election in Nigeria didn't start in 2023. From 1993 to 2019, Igbos have cheerfully voted Presidential candidates from other tribes, namely;


1993 - MKO Abiola (Yoruba)
1999 - Olusegun Obasanjo (Yoruba)
2003 - Olusegun Obasanjo (Yoruba)
2007 - Musa Yaradua (Fulani)
2011 - Goodluck Jonathan (Ijaw)
2015 - Goodluck Jonathan (Ijaw)
2019 - Atiku Abubakar (Fulani)



So in all fairness, 2023 was supposed to be micro-zoned to Southeast just as 1999 was done for Southwest.


Igbos voted massively for Peter Obi because Igbos believed they have voted and supported other tribes enough for others to replicate the support for an Igbo candidate, and secondly because Peter Obi was a qualified candidate that would have repositioned Nigeria for the good of all Nigerians
