Nobody pray for uncertainty but what is the safest way out when it happens. I have come to understand that whenever there is an accident or emergency, the car door will automatically jam locked to the extent that it will mostly difficult to open from inside. So my dear nairalanders, I'm a case like this God forbid, what's the best thing to do. Source: obembet

I've always wondered, at least for under water, it's the water pressure. Well this was the original intent behind Nairaland before bigots and mindless corn artistes took over. Deep reflection, debates, information and knowledge. Auto Engineers please do us the honours. |

Electrical failures and physical damage to the frame of the car can result in door locks. In certain cases, impact sensors trigger door locks during an accident. The removable head rest of most cars has a double function of serving as glass breaker when the door fails to open that's assuming of course that the occupant of the car is conscious enough to do so. Any accident that will trigger a door lock will generally leave you in bad place. |

This is one of the fail safe proof of cars and car manufacturing. For example, cars never had side mirrors, cars never had wipers. Then this Black lady invented the wiper and we started putting rear view mirrors. The reason why some features are in one country and not in the other is regulation but because we consume everything available to us, we call it spec. Korean spec, US spec, UK spec. What's the Nigerian spec? Those features they put in there are for their own countries and that's how their emergency take care of accidents. They have fire service that will break the windows, they have car locks that will send a call to 911 that there's is an accident with geo tracking. Everyone designs what works for thsm

It's not ALWAYS that the door is locked after an accident. Sometimes, the impact in a crash jams the mechanism for opening the door & therefore the door will need to be forced or barred open. In some cases an axe is needed to cut sections of the car open to bring out people inside. |

I guess because doors are always locked when the car is put on drive. So when an accident occur, the car will still be on drive as in the gear is still on D. Which means doors are still locked. |

There is no one reason for this. Sometimes there is electrical system damage during the accident that prevents the car door from opening. However, it's majorly due to mechanical jamming of the door locks in the case of impact accident. When it happens, please don't spend time trying to force the door open. Just shatter the glasses as quickly as possible to escape. The car can later go up in flames. |

... Such vague question. There's no car company that will put a feature in their cars to make the doors jam when there's any form of collision. That's not only counterproductive, but very unsafe. Car doors jamming are mostly due to impact around the hinges or door lock mechanism. This means other measures should be employed to rescue whoever is in the car. |

Car doors may lock or become difficult to open after an accident due to several factors, including the car's safety features, the force of the impact, and potential damage to the locking mechanisms. Modern cars often have automatic door locking features that activate upon impact to prevent doors from opening during a collision. Additionally, the force of the impact can damage the door locking mechanisms, making them difficult or impossible to operate. |

obembet:First of all, most cars that their doors are locked when they had accident already have the door locked by owners before the accident and because the doors were already locked, the impact of the accident create jam on the key, making it difficult to unlock. In other cases where the doors are not originally locked by the owner, the impact of the accident would have closed the little gap between the doors and the body of the vehicle thereby making it difficult for the door to open.. Lats but not the list, the African science, this happened when your village people are the cause of the accident and they don't want you to come out alive. |

most likely due to the impact of the accident, it must have affected the lock mechanism, other doors that aren't affected can be easily accessed from inside and if the central doors are unlocked, it can be accessed from outside... |
