It is 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday. You have fought your way through Lagos traffic, spent too much on suya that burns more than it pleases, and finally settled in to watch the Champions League final. But nothing comes easy. Your options are limited, and none of them make sense.Source: https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2025/04/23/you-are-too-poor-for-pay-per-view-ppv/

Be careful what you wish for. If PPV was introduced, a full season of football might cost more than your rent! Better appreciate what we’re getting now. |

Some years back, I pushed a question relating to this to a senior staff of dstv in one event at Landmark, his face expression and his response made it easy for me to draw my conclusion regarding this very topic. |

Imagine going to a cinema and paying for popcorn separately — that’s PPV. It’s not a discount model, it’s a luxury-tier access fee. Don’t confuse it with being economical. |

It’s ironic that people want PPV, thinking it’ll save them money. In reality, you'll pay more for the privilege of watching a single event. And when that bill adds up, you’ll miss your old subscription fee. let that popular saying you don't know what you have until you loose it be our case oo |

Ever thought about the real cost of PPV? Imagine having to pay extra for every Champions League game, every EPL match, every UFC fight. Makes DStv subscription look like a pretty good deal, right? |

Many of us lack knowledge of it as such.. We thought it's just more of post paid, where you pay for content used just as GSM |

Nigerians keep shouting We want Pay-Per-View! Do you know that in America, people pay for cable AND still buy PPV events separately? Meanwhile, your DStv subscription already covers these for you. |

latiephwald:So you can pay N120k for one single match just because Nigerians can adapt, especially when you can just get it for free with your normal sub? |
| Re: Can Nigerians Afford Pay-Per-View TV? by DammyAdeb16: 1:21pm On Apr 29, 2025 |
Yes. The average PPV cost about $80 dollars. Let's even say they want to give you discounted price of N80k, can you still pay for one match? Love800: |

Well, Lucky me. I neither watch TV nor football. What a useless waste of time. Youtube is there. At the end of the day, I've never heard any good news from Nigeria. |

Absolutely!! The PPV model ends up being more expensive than monthly subscription. In UK for instance, most people have the basic Sky package with gives TV, Internet and phone. The TV channels however don't come with the Premier league channels. Most people would press the red button to pay for their teams matches which at the time, was £10. Calculate over the season, if you choose to watch all your teams matches, how much you spend. Here, there is the luxury of watching different games plus highlights and repeats for a monthly fee that is less than PPV. I'm not a fan of football though. I watch F1 and have an F1TV annual subscription of 44$ which allows me watch all the races plus practice sessions plus F2, F3... Better deal than DSTV |

Whomever brought this PPV issue up is so inconsiderate of the people and their current suffering level; you just keep bringing avenues for Nigerians to be exploited the more, should this even be a topic for discussion at all in this period that people are unable to even consistently pay for the cheapest GoTV subscription ![]() |
