The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the brutal terrorist attack that occurred on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, located in southern Indian-administered Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals—mostly tourists—and left several others critically injured.

In a statement issued by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria described the attack as a “deeply tragic incident” and reiterated its commitment to standing with India during this trying time.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria strongly condemns the recent terrorist attack in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam. We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of 26 innocent lives and the injuries sustained by many others,” the statement read.

Ebienfa emphasized that Nigeria, having endured its own share of terrorism and insurgency, understands the pain and destruction such attacks cause. He underscored the need for intensified global efforts in the fight against terrorism.

“Terrorism remains a grave international threat that demands a coordinated and unwavering global response. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire people of India,” he said.

The statement reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with India in the collective pursuit of peace, stability, and justice across the world.

Meanwhile, authorities in India have launched multiple counter-terrorism operations in the Kashmir region, particularly around Pahalgam, following the deadly ambush. Security has since been heightened as investigations continue into the perpetrators behind the coordinated assault.

It’s deeply ironic that the Federal Government of Nigeria rushed to condemn the terrorist attack in India, yet remains largely silent when Nigerians are being slaughtered almost weekly. Where was this same energy when:


- **April 28, 2025** – A roadside bomb in Borno State killed at least 26 people, including women and children. ISWAP claimed responsibility.

- **April 24, 2025** – Armed men massacred at least 20 people in Zamfara State, attacking a gold-mining site and a mosque.

- **April 18, 2025** – In Benue State, at least 56 people were killed in a brutal attack linked to the ongoing farmer-herder crisis.

- **April 13, 2025** – Suspected herders killed over 40 people in Zike village, Plateau State.

- **September 3, 2024** – Over 130 villagers were massacred in Tarmuwa, Yobe State by Islamic State militants.



Yet no official statements, no visits, no national mourning. But one attack abroad, and our government is quick to "stand in solidarity" and issue elaborate condolences. This double standard is not just shameful—it’s an insult to the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Charity begins at home. Nigerian lives should matter just as much.

I can't speak for all igbos, but I believe that most igbos condemn such terrorists attacks anywhere. Most Igbos will never support Islamabad. But in this case, most igbos are still studying both parties and urging for peace.
