There Is A 2nd In Every Primary Elections If You Defect 2nd Takes Your Place?? by KnowAll(op): 8:23am On Apr 30, 2025

All parties should put it in their constitution that whoever defects from their parties would lose their post whether Govnenors, DGov, Senator, Reps , house of Assembly.

Since the party is supreme it makes sense for whoever comes second in the primaries should take over as was the case of Yaya Bellow when he took over when the man that won the election died.

What do you guys think huh

Not in the political "system" presently running in Nigeria.

It makes sense for parties to wise up and add this clause to their party rules even the Supreme Court would abide by having ruled that internal working of a party better be left to the party.

It's a ridiculous law. There's freedom of association. Also, no country practive such law, at least to the best of my knowledge. Democrat and Republican office holders cross-carpet and they don't lose their elected seats.

In Nigeria right now, what we see happening with defections into the APC, if the opposition was serious with the current economic situation and the Tinubu's unpopular reforms, PDP should be the party absorbing defectors from the APC. No law will compensate for the oppositions' unseriousness, laziness, and lack of direction. If e didn't dey, e didn't dey. Ordinarily standing as a stumbling block in the House and Senate against Tinubu's SoE order in Rivers State, PDP and LP couldn't achieve that. They lacked the initiative to collab to find the tiny number to vote against the order and you are saying talking about this. LOL. What did Obi and Atiku do then other than post some useless thread that got lost in the news cycle in less than 24 hours?

In SA all the EFF people who defected to MK lost their seats so I don’t see what is wrong with the idea..

To you it makes no sense. But society develops and grows because of discipline, rules and regulations. A society without orderliness would end up worse than a banana republic.

Looks like someone is going to court to test the law. If you end up second in a primaries and your principal jump ship u might be able to inherit the post as it is the party that won an election and not an individual. Let’s see how it goes.
