Once upon a time we had the PWD Public Works Department. Later FERMA took over and just like the ministry of works they are there to sign contracts and wait for kickbacks. Burkina Faso has employed the model of Direct Labor with a yearly target of 5000km of paved roads with no loan or concessions. All the materials required for construction abound in this blessed country but our politicians and policy makers are out for their pockets alone. Can't lift a finger without loan or using our crude oil as guarantee for payment. Just like NNPC, the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure needs to be restructured.
PWD and FERMA did not construct roads, they repaired and maintained the roads. Major roads were constructed by Julius Berger, RCC and co.
Forget that Burkina Faso propaganda 5000km in a year will cost them almost their yearly budget unless other areas will suffer

Not a bad idea! Please reputable companies only that will invest in the repairs of the road to a high standard BEFORE tolling!

Some when given the concession will invest first in tollgate before starting work. Concessions work ...if done correctly and with strict regulatory control

I thought to the removal of subsidy was to free up funds for the government to do lots of infrastructure. the same nigerians paying high for fuel, school fees for kids, food, etc....

Haba same nigerians will now pay for roads directly in the name of concession and you call that a future.
Those funds have been freed. They are with our state governors.

Me I no com know wetin our governors dey do with the money o.

States’ monthly allocations have really improved - more than double.

That’s why our govs are crossing to Ruk king party that won’t prove them, as they chop d money.

The issue of security has to be addressed, there is no need building highways if people can be attacked by gun wielding criminals in braod day light in the presence of police and army and nothing is done about it. Its a joke and no sane investor would should invest without addressing these issues.

Is it the bandits and kidnappers that will pay the toll gate fees? What is NAF doing with their UCAV, playing with it? Lobbish.

Your claim of 5,000 km is impossible, as you need about $6B -$10B to build 5,000 km per annum; meanwhile, the budget of Burkina Faso is about $6B. Please make it make sense. How do you guys run with illogical falsehoods? C’mon.

On average a km of road now in Nigeria should be around 320m courtesy Nigerian factor with double drain on 30k/lm. But we are forgetting that these construction items are state owned and controlled. Minus the nominal cost for equipment and fueling this cost will reduce to drastically. That is what Burkina Faso is doing, making use of their laterite sandstone granite and spending only on probably Bitumen and gasoline. No taxes no interest rate on APG and bogus community liason to get the job done. I cited PWD not because they constructed roads but because their operations allowed roads to last longer due to prompt maintenance. Why take a loan to pay for what you have? That's what I am saying. The Burkina Faso claim maybe bogus but last I checked their projects are on course.

Imposing tolls on our roads could be abusive, especially in a country like ours where corruption is rife.
I only hope that these concessionaires will also ensure increased security along the toll corridors to promote land transportation.
It is regrettable that some of these roads have swallowed up more than ten times the amount the project developers are willing to spend to repair them, and that all of it has ended up in private bank accounts. I am also certain that the so-called concessionaires are part of the same corrupt system that reinvests our stolen funds while continuing to profit from the country they stole.

Pele o, propagandalist, in simplest terms, how many years will it take FG thieves to complete the project?

Clearly, you don’t fully grasp this news. I believe we need a news outlet that simplifies articles, maybe using Pidgin or very simple English, so everyone can easily understand.

ACRI:
Why tollinghuh

1. Plug the leaks in government revenue
2. Reduce government spending
3. Restructure the civil service
4. Drastically reduce cost of governance
5. Make corruption very costly, introduce stiff penalties for stealing of public funds
