If not for Obiano and Soludo cleaning Obi's faults, Anambra would be number 1 on that list.

Have you forgotten how people were dying in fights over uncooked rice in Peter Obi's state just last December?

Ebonyi is actually poor. But I have two questions.

1.
What percentage of poverty alleviation funds or programmes by the federal government gets to Ebonyi State?

2.
What is the Common Entrance Examination cut-off mark for Ebonyi State?

Do the comparisons if you still doubt the glaring tribalism and marginalisation that the East faces in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, those who use Monday sit-at-home order to mock the East are disappointed here as Enugu, Anambra, Abia and Imo are not on the list. They even published that the sit-at-home order has crippled the economy of the East.

Be realistic. Ebonyi is a very young State. Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra were together as one State. During that period, development was focused more on Enugu as the state capital. This also explains why Enugu is more developed than Anambra despite the fact that Anambra has richer people. Anambra was later carved out. Enugu and Ebonyi remained together as one State for some years before Ebonyi was carved out.
From which state was Anambra carved out?

I made a mistake. The 3 states were called Anambra. I meant to say that Enugu and Ebonyi were carved out of Anambra. But Enugu was the capital when the 3 states were together. I have corrected the mistake. Thank you for pointing it out.

SW has been the richest region in Nigeria even without Lagos. It has been so since the inception of Nigeria.
We should take another look at regionalism, biko.
The people of the SW are already into West coast traveling business, popularly called AJAPA.
My dad said his mum was into AJAPA business, and sometimes she stays in Ghana, though she's from Ogbomosho.
He said her mum financed his trip to US in 1969, he studied and graduated at the University of Wisconsin.
He said his mother dragged him back to Nigeria, because she heard people are getting shot.
My father said he got back to Nigeria in 1978, and discovered that most women in the family already build houses.
My grandma left two houses, both upstairs, na LAUTECH students they stay in those houses today.
There was also a place called Aawe in Oyo state back then, my dad said that place was like London because of Cocoa, and Kolanuts.
He said anytime he to deliver goods to customers at Aawe and returned, he will beg his mum to allow him live a particular family called Aresa, he said Aawe is simply beautiful.
He said his mother was so afraid of him running off to Aawe, that she sent him off to the US when the opportunity arise.

Shuttt up your lying mouth there, Anambra is by far more developed than Enugu state/ Anambra is the most developed Igbo state. Ebonyi is the poorest in southern Nigeria and it should bother you.

Most poverty alleviation schemes by FG and CBN don't get to Ebonyi state. They just focus on Northern Nigeria as a poverty region.

Ebonyi Government have to cry out about this.

A STATE CAN BE RICH BUT FILLED WITH POOR People.

STATE THAT TASK ITS CITIZENS
STATE THAT UNDERPAYS WORKERS
STATE THAT ENRICHES ITS POLITICIANS

A POOR STATE CAN PRODUCE RICH PEOPLE BUT A RICH STATE MOSTIMES PROMOTES OPPRESSION AND POOR PEOPLE.

IF YOU CHECK WELL U WILL DISCOVER THIS STATE LISTED ABOVE HAVE CHEAP SERVICES AND GOODS.

ACCOMODATION IS CHEAP
TRANSPORTATION AFFORDABLE
FOOD IS VERY CHEAP AND AFFORDABLE

COMPARED TO LAGOS, ABUJA, PORTHARCOUT, DELTA AND OTHERS WHERE FOOD PRICES ARE HIGH, TRANSPORTATION EXPENSIVE AND HOUSES UNAFFORDABLE.

SALARY MAY BE HIGH BUT JUST HOUSE RENT ALONE SWALLOWS ALL YOUR 6 MONTHS SALARY.

YOU WORK AND DON'T EVEN HAVE EVIDENCE OF SAVINGS ..JUST WORKING FROM HAND TO MOUTH.

LIKE I SAID Earlier , A STATE MAY BE RICH BUT THE POVERTY LEVEL MAY BE HIGH.. PEOPLE LIVING BELOW STANDARD SUFFERING TO EXIST
You are the only person that made sense in this thread

Well done bro

Release the list of top 10 under performing governors instead because brainless governors made these people or states poor.

Let's highlight the underperformers for people to be educated about what their problems really are rather than pitch one tribe against another or one state against another. We can have:

List of top 10 most corrupt governors
List of top 50 under performing lawmakers
List of top 10 misfits amongst the ministers
List of senators who proposed zero bills in 4 years
List of 50 most under performing government agencies
Make sense. Nigerians are not interested in any of those things you mentioned. What an average Nigerian is interested in is the president...
Re: Top 10 Poorest States In Nigeria by sharone21(f): 10:48am On May 04, 2025
Ebonyi's problem is generational poverty and the youths aren't trying to do better eg by at least doing what the other Eastern states indigenes are doing. Cost of living in Ebonyi is affordable.

If there will be regional government, these states( especially in the North) have to depend on the ones that are already doing better and this will mean stretching them.

Fellow South Easterners pls let's cede Ebonyi state to the North Region.
That's where they should belong.
Re: Top 10 Poorest States In Nigeria by Basicend:
90% of those states are in the north.

But they have been the leaders of Nigeria majorly for decades.

Northerners need to sit down and re-address their approach to life.

Is education they need to priorotize or adjust their religious doctrines. They must give power to their people equitably.

Surprised; I was expecting to see Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Ekiti and Kwara states in there.

The problem is how to identify those who are truly poor. There are people in Nigeria who are classified as poor, that is, living on less than a dollar daily. But some of these people may have much more money at their disposal. Ordinarily you'd classify beggars as poor, but believe me many of them aren't poor at all, they're just preying on other people's generosity. A man recently narrated how he'd been giving a certain beggar 2k on Fridays, but later discovered that the beggar owns three keke that he's hiring out. The method they are using in assessing the poverty level is misleading and wrong.
Living on less than 2 dollars daily is still a great poverty o, especially in this Emilokan regime.

So Peter Obi's state is among the poorest state in Nigeria. If he had done so well, like so many of his crusaders campaigned, how come his state is this poor?
