Popular Nigerian film producer Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, has claimed that gospel singer Mercy Chinwo was behind the recent arrest of social media personality VeryDarkMan, Newspremises reports.

Stanley Ontop made these assertions in an Instagram post on Sunday, responding to widespread speculation that VDM's arrest was linked to GTBank. Contrary to these reports, the filmmaker accused Chinwo of orchestrating the arrest and criticized Nigerian churches for allegedly using law enforcement agencies to suppress citizens.

"GTBank had no hand in VDM’s arrest on their premises. The real person behind it is Mercy Chinwo," he wrote.

"Religious institutions have become like government bodies, leveraging the police, EFCC, and military to intimidate people. Mercy Chinwo is the issue here, not GTBank."

According to the DAILY POST, VeryDarkMan was taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, May 2, following a visit to GTBank with his mother to report an alleged unauthorized deduction from her bank account.

If this is true, it's really worrying. Critics of Mercy Chinwo would say it's wrong for a gospel singer to use the police to go after someone who speaks out. It also shows how powerful people might be using the law to silence others, which is not okay.
