Lagos, Nigeria – A disturbing incident has sparked fresh outrage online after a young lady raised alarm over the alleged arrest of a boy in Lagos by a tactical squad simply for being in possession of a lighter.

According to the eyewitness, who shared the incident via social media, the boy was reportedly stopped and searched by officers, and despite finding no incriminating evidence aside from a common cigarette lighter, he was allegedly arrested on the spot.

“They just arrested this guy because they found a lighter on him. This is exactly how End SARS began. These rogue officers are still harassing young Nigerians,” she wrote, expressing deep concern over the persistent profiling and harassment of Nigerian youth.

The post has since sparked heated conversations online, with many Nigerians drawing parallels to the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), whose operations were notoriously marked by unlawful arrests, extortion, and brutality — leading to the historic #EndSARS protests in 2020.

While the identity of the boy remains unknown, calls for immediate accountability have intensified, with demands for the Lagos State Police Command to investigate the officers involved and clarify the basis for the arrest.

2020 just before end sars protest, I was inside Keke with one guy and police patrol car double crossed us and the Keke guy parked. These guys searched me and found nothing on me, they searched the other guy and found lighter and rizzler on him.
Seeing that the guy wasn't looking quite well off, these bastard officers tried to handcuff me and the guy together and I refused saying I didn't know the guy. They did all they could, slapped me, tried to push me into the car and I refused. Me I don't smoke and you want to implicate me with someone you saw lighter and rizzler on. O boy I nor gree oo. Dem point me gun, do everything, I nor gree.
Eventually, when they saw that true true I couldn't budge, one of them had to pet me and told me to gently follow them to the station and I ended up following them to their station. These guys pulled my clothes to my boxer and searched me and searched my phones for any incriminating thing and couldn't find anything. Then they now told me to give them anything on behalf of the guy they caught with rizzler and that was how I gave them 2k then and they released the guy from handcuff and myself.

God go punish these foolish bastards...If na now self, if police catch me with lighter, make them born their papa well make them try this kind bullshit with me make I know when lighter become contraband for naija.
