I find these mornachs disgusting. Imagine the number of kings in Nigeria by 2025, to the point where state governments have established ministries to address chieftaincy issues. Just imagine. And it is all because they use these people to win and occasionally rig elections. Some will argue that we must protect our culture. Just tell me...look at these Ooni and Alaafin; are they the kind who know their culture well? If they know, this type of problem will never occur. These people are just spending money. One guy like that brought a Jamaican lady with him to be enthroned, and the lady eventually divorced him. The same Yoruba king began referring to himself as an emir and wearing northern attire at times. Does it appear that this type of person can teach you about a culture he is unfamiliar with? Another one is currently under investigation for illegal arms importation. And, given Kano's badtardisation of everything, can we say that these people have not lost their relevance? Or is it the Sultan of Sokoto who is unaware of his boundaries and wishes to command Muslims throughout the country? We are simply wasting money on these individuals. |

The current Alaafin like some of his predecessor is trying to rewrite history by remaining seated whilst greeting the Ooni. The image will be circulated in the future to claim his supremacy over Ooni. However, Ooni is the Arole (Heir ) of Oodua and superior. Therefore, Yoruba elders should call the young Alaafin to order before he starts another bitter rivalry between the two great thrones |

Anyways, I'm not Yoruba, but courtesy demands that Alafin should stand to greet a fellow high ranking Traditional Ruler who stretches his hand to greet. |

Image123:But he stood up to greet The president's wife and the governor ![]() The new Alaafin just get baseless pride If to sey e stand up greet Ooni, make dem exchange handshake 🤝 and hug 🫂 each other.. the picture go circulate and really go far in uniting Yorubas. But Alaafin don listen to people, taking advice from ordinary people forgetting he is Alaafin. Ooni will always win this battle with history, humility and respect. Ooni is just a peaceful traditional ruler. Can never happen during the time of Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II ![]()

You can never understand how wide the culture of the Yorubas is. Yorubas is a diverse ethnicity that transversed the continent of Africa. I guess you aren't Yoruba or even if you are, you aren't a depth knowledgeable Yoruba. Yorubas aren't just such people that Japa or those that migrated for economic reasons. Yorubas are indigenous of so many countries such as Americas consisting of USA, Dominican Republic, Cuban, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Etc......also in Africa, Yorubas are indigenous to countries such as Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Liberia, etc.....Yorubas aren't limited to Nigeria alone unlike other tribes in Nigeria. It's only Yoruba, Hausa and Fulani that have a global representation ethnically. Now, let me explain briefly to you. All those Yorubas widely dispersed all over those countries I mentioned and more, their ancestors were carried away as slaves between 15 to 18th Century by the Europeans and were distributed to all those countries. Mind you, it wasn't only Yorubas that was carried away as slaves then but other tribes too but the Yorubas among them decided to retain their culture, their language and the manner of worshipping such as Ifa, Obantala, Iyemoja etc.... the Yorubas kept their culture intact and infact started practicing their cultures in those diverse areas and even blended it with the culture of those countries they were taken to. For example, in the US, the people that formed Oyotunji were descendants of Yoruba slaves that still remembered that they are Yorubas and still want to be known as Yorubas and also practice the culture. That's the reason they got some large hectares of land to create Oyotunji Kingdom in the fashion of the bigger Kingdom of Oyo Kingdom in Nigeria. They have always shared communication and guidance with the motherland/fatherland in Oyo, Nigeria. The same things is also applicable to other areas where they have Indigenous Yorubas as a tribe. Incase you need more understanding, please read the history of the Yorubas in America's and the world at large.... mayorcassa977: |

You know what, when we starts soliciting for individuals that weren't tutored in the culture of their people. That's what we always get. The new Alaafin of Oyo has always been in the USA. I guess he was born and bred in the US without a deep knowledge of the cultures of the Yorubas. Also, he's crowned based on political influences, he's appointed by the Governor of Oyo state unlike Ooni Of Ife that's always chosen by IFA ORACLE...... Chegesnd: |

The Alafin is superior to the ooni of ife in terms of historic relevance. The ooni is the direct descendant of oduduwa so he has spiritual superiority somehow. If not for British rule, the most prominent Yoruba obas are the Alafin of Oyo and the Olubadan of Ibadan. |

publicenemy:I think the Ooni goes to a bit too many occasions. He could be more selective. Being selective gives less room to speculators and those who interpret every move wrongly. I know he's using a modern touch and wants to be more visible and accessible. I don't think his manner is wrong. Just that our clime does not value humility. GEJ comes to mind. Monarchs in Scandinavia, especially Denmark and Sweden, are popular for their simplicity. Advanced countries value such humility. We are not there yet. From what we know historically, the Alaafin is an imperial warrior king and the Ooni is a priest king. In modern times, both the empire and priesthood are symbolic due to modern Nigeria and Middle-Eastern religions. So, this supremacy battle fanned by people without any voice in real life is too bad. |
