I wonder what happens to the collaborators in the banks that are their suppliers.

This is harsh!!!

They didn't steal the money. They merely sold their newly minted cash to willing buyers for a small margin. EFCC should focus more on the main thieves. The women were just doing their normal hustle
May God help this country because most of you are not ready for change.

The judge should have given both of them 6 years each to understand what freedom means.
Of all the occupation in Nigeria, it is selling mint naira notes they feel they should engage in.
Are their mates not selling Amala and agbò?
They deserve to be given stiffer punishment.

Leave matter, biko!!! So, in your mind, Jailing some peasants is what would bring the so called change? There are offenses that are considered minor with minimal impacts to the society. These women are POS operators and there are chances that they could easily obtain newly minted currencies from the bank and trade them to some willing buyers, who may want to use them in an occasion. I considered whatever crime they may have committed in this regard as minor. Minimal fine would have been better....not sending someone to one year behind bars. The psychological trauma would be too much.

Imagine forfeiting a whopping N3.8m to FG at this time. Some POS operators are the ones sustaining their families. Nigerian courts should have human face when dispensing judgment to the poor.
Most of you curse and call Nigeria all sort of name. If Nigeria were to be reset and rules fully implemented like what is obtainable in the UK, many will find themselves in jail because we are serial lawbreakers.

They're going after POS operators when banks can't widely install or maintain their ATM machines. These clowns enjoy putting their carts before the horses or tell me why they refuse to solve major problems before inflicting punishments. This is just sad
They are not POS operator. These women were selling mints to party goers...

What a country we live in,where the corrupt politicians, killers, kidnappers and bandits and terrorists get pampered and rewarded for hurting the whole nation, while the poor managing to make ends meet to survive another day in the cursed country is used as a scape goat and all her money seized and she is jailed for doing something that isn't really hurting anyone, not nearly as the criminals the government pampers.

EFCC has become the new SARs finally..meanwhile yeye bello is chilling in Kogi fvcking all the girls he can find and Gboko boys are getting rehabilitated and given money and bags of food..can't this country be rid of senseless wicked people who are considered leaders?

How do you determine that they are not pos operators when the court saw the POS machine that they are using
. EFCC even goes out to.make personal money.Hardly will you go to any town without POS operators in Nigeria.Yet EFCC has not done anything. That shows that the Commission has always been silent on the POS users. What makes this difference?

I know exchange of notes is against the law and this has been frowned up always.

Thank you for directing my attention to this unusual administration of justice in Nigeria.

One year imprisonment with no option of fine for hawking naira plus forfeiture of the 3 million POS business money to Federal government - all for hawking naira.

Nigeria has happened to this woman despite being guilty of a petty offence.
I hope she had not argued previously with anyone that Nigeria is a good country for everyone.
I sincerely pity her cause something is wrong with that trial judge
That punishment is too heavy for a petty offense.
Re: Court Jails Two Women For Hawking Naira Notes In Lagos by Blackdisciple(m): 10:43pm On May 04, 2025
They were only going about their businesses they did not steal the money

But 1 year is too much na... let them get bail, first time offenders or something
The repeat offender for 1 year with no option of fine and forfeiture of 3.8m+

The first time offender got 1year with option of 500k fine including forfeiture of 1.6m

The judge is heartless

That judge is not serious.

Confiscated their business money that is not a proceed of crime and still gave her one year jail term with no option of fine. All for selling naira.

There is no justice for ordinary people in this country
Re: Court Jails Two Women For Hawking Naira Notes In Lagos by CaptainFM1: 11:25pm On May 04, 2025
Something is wrong with the way justice is dispensed in this country.

If it's an offense for the seller, I suppose it should also be an offense for the buyers.

But the real question to ask is, why are banks not maintaining their ATMs?

No waste of sympathy for them, all these people selling mints at events them too do, they are indirectly responsible for why banks hardly have cash in ATMs because bankers would rather sell to them.
So what should be the punishment for the banks and bankers?

And why are the main culprits not punished instead or as well?

If U go to Abuja, around asokoro, jabi, area 2 or so, aboki dey sell mints of all denominations in the open, U won't see efcc go after them.
I have never heard efcc do stint operations in Abuja..

Why arrest someone who is doing business?

Is POs now illegal biz?

My annoyance is why won't EFCC go after their source. Use reduced sentences as plea bargain so they can rat out their source.

Why would banks sell cash in the first place? If bank decided not to sell to them, will those who hawk it have something to hawk? The problem of us is this country is that we always try to avoid tackle issues from the root.

Why one year? Why use the masses as Lab Rats and scapegoats to show your proactive and functional judiciary? This is not good - the consequences are too harsh. I will keep saying this, Learn to educate the people about the Constitution - so many of us do not know. Sadly, it's in the face of infringement, that you are thought, and the hard way

There isn't anymore misplaced priority than this.

They never stated new naira notes, this looks like pure POS business, the problem here is they don't have a shop...

Still a big misplaced priority...
