happney65:Even if the they, the nonsense would still continue. Last week, the transformer in my street develop fault and and we ask to provide money to fix it. You own and business and yet task the consumers to provide money on fixing your facilities. I give up on Nigeria a very long time. It funny when I see Nigeria shall be great online. Maybe in another realm. |

I once proudly said that the Nigerian government can not tax poverty but I was wrong. We will be squeezed dry, just so enough that we can survive but not live. |

You cant tell your MDAs , and government establishments to pay up their electricity debts, instead you use that money to install solar panels and want the masses to pay up your incurred debts by increase. There will be a revolution in the energy sector, this extortion is not sustainable . I think the govt has a plan to kill all local industries that rely on power, Solar panels cannot power industrial growth this is a known fact . You dont use solar panels to drive industrial growth , you have to go nuclear. But some clown want people in Africa to use solar panels. We have coal, hydro power why waste money and land for useless solar panels which cant even sustain lighting for 6 hours straight? |

theredaddy:you get it ,because whatever they say ,nobody challenges we just accept no matter how ridiculous, after band A,band B etc dichotomy he is still talking about non existence subsidy By now it should be clear to everyone that there is no subsidy anywhere, they are just doing price increase to match their revenues or profit projections, that is why the thing is unending |

RoxyBrownAutos:Seriously. I am paying about N227 per kwh and still it is not cost reflective? Is the government seeking to fund their N4 trillion debt by overcharging us? Meanwhile I'm so happy I have an adequate solar power system now. Their incompetencies will not stop me from enojoying uninterrupted electrical power. |

Racoon:Racoon, let's forget politics for a moment...and I am not backing APC. This year's budget was based on oil being 75 dollars per barrel. For several weeks now, oil has been hovering around 60 dollars per barrel, and may even go lower. That means difficultes in funding the budget and by extension, subsides for anything. Plus, we have been subsidising power for decades, and it has not improved power supply at all, yes. (Even under your beloved GEJ, power supply was bad. Let's not deny it). Since power was privatised, we have been paying subsides, and essentially preventing the power sector from making a profit. Now, with falling oil prices, money for subsides will be hard to come by this year. Either tarrifs are raised, or we go and take loans, and nobody complains about it. |

| Re: Nigeria Can't Sustain Electricity Subsidies, Brace For New Tariffs – Adelabu by nairalanda1(m): 11:38am On May 05, 2025 |
LordReed:227 is cost reflective. But you are among the minority. The majority does not pay that high. (I am on band B and pay less than that). That is a big reason why the power sector does not have the money to give us better power supply. |
| Re: Nigeria Can't Sustain Electricity Subsidies, Brace For New Tariffs – Adelabu by bigiyaro(m): 11:38am On May 05, 2025 |
😂😂😂😂 when you are so brain unalived to think your only job is to increase electricity tarrif as minister of power. No road map, no strategic plan, no audit, just period increment without commensurate improvement. APC na scam. |
| Re: Nigeria Can't Sustain Electricity Subsidies, Brace For New Tariffs – Adelabu by newoffer: 11:42am On May 05, 2025 |
Then crash the NEPA let everybody look for power supply for themselves. |
| Re: Nigeria Can't Sustain Electricity Subsidies, Brace For New Tariffs – Adelabu by nairalanda1(m): 11:42am On May 05, 2025 |
bigiyaro:Because the power sector is largely privatised. All the power minister has to do is oversee the grid and the subsides. The grid itself has been under renovation by Siemems since 2019, and the renovation is supposed to take several years. But generation and distribution are private. That means that if we need a new gas power plant, it would have to be a genco that would raise the funds to build it, and liase with the government about supplying the power to the grid. But since most Nigerians do not pay cost reflective tarrifs, gencos cannot attract investment and financing for new power stations. Hence the problem. Power minister cannot order for a new power plant. That has been the case since 2013 when power was privatised. If it was 2001, when a new power plant was commisioned by the then government, then yeah. |

OndoNews:This article suggests that the current N209/kwh for band A is cost reflective. if that is the case, the best way to restructure the tariffs is to have a tiered system where the first 100kwh consumed in a month is a bit cheap to cater for very low income folks, while from 100kwh per month to 999kwh per month is at the current band A price for everybody. Then above1000kwh per month is like N250, so that these ones are subsidizing the low income folks. It will also encourage those who use electricity unnecesaarily above 1000kwh per month to reduce consumption. of course all ive said here is for residential consumers. |

Haba! You people should pity Nigerians nau! New tarrifs all the time! From telecom to power! Nobody is even talking about the high charges by Nigerian telecom operators these days! Data charges have become so exorbitant that browsing the Internet is now a luxury for many! A developing country like Nigeria should make information so cheap and affordable for those of us seeking knowledge online! God! What manner of leaders have you chosen to punish us with these days! |
