Maybe the tracker the person has is useless because it's fake. The one I know is installed/managed by a company. It's sim card linked and after payment of the installation cost, you only pay an annual fee of 10k for the data for running the sim. Once installed, you can track the car from your phone or call the company to do it. Additionally, you can switch off the car's engine from your phone via sms text. Assuming Op had a tracker on his car, he could have immediately disabled the engine via text and would have been able to locate the car nearby since the theft just happened and they couldn't have driven the car far. Once you disable the engine this way, it can only be restarted if you send a code via sms to the tracker, so the thief is most likely to either abandon the car or try to check for engine fault and risk been caught.

Those kind of thieves operate late at night,from 1am.all those kind parole wey u go visit yur guy for trenches,no where to park than outside compound.if the thief too pity u,e fit steal your 4 tyres complete with rims.

Lexus and some toyotas I know,they have a vallet key,inside that key,there is like a sensor/bulb...no matter the extra key or master key. If the sensor no align with ignition. The thief go kill your battery,cos engine go roll,and not start,small time, alarm would go off.

The best is pedal lock,and that pedal lock I'd almost 3 to 4kg heavy,full steel.thick and effective. But at a point ,u would get tired....the day u forget to use it,is the day they would disarm your car.
It's like t size.only for pedal,it's like that globe black padlock body,luke times ten of that globe padlock body. No how,the thief would swear 4u and cry,cos it can't be sawed off or disarmed.las las he go damage your door panels,dashboard,seats mirros , if na corrolla,brainbox dey pigeon hole,he go disarm am. To lost car for naija,na only god fit make u normal after the loss.

Check the workshop where the car was sprayed and upgraded. Those people can't be trusted.

The sprayer, panel beater or auto electricians are suspects here, one of them might have duplicated the car key while working on it.

I gave a car to a sprayer. I was surprised when people were telling me that they saw my car at this and that. Each time I called the man he would say I went to buy this and that bla bla

I learnt something from my dad growing up. His car does not pass the night with a mechanic. Majority of the time, they come to fix his car at home. As far as my dad he is concerned, he gives you money, you go get the parts and come fix the car in his premises. This has worked for ages.

I have carried on with the same principle. It gives you peace of mind. Another mistake you should not make is handing your car key to car wash guys. Some people don't have the power to resist temptation when it presents itself cheaply. Your car, freely in their possession unsupervised, is a huge temptation.

A car that was in my care was stolen on the (1st of may.2025)still difficult for me to explain how all this happened,I parked at a popular junction here in benin city,at ulegun market junction immediately after bridge idogbo,upper sakponba, its around 9:pm i quietly parked at the junction just for me to cross to an aboki man joint to get a fast indomie,I perfectly central locked the motor and locked the steering neck,the key was with me just for me to cross back the car was no-where to be found,with alot of my belongings and people's money inside a cash of above 1.8million was hide under the center sit, including 3posmachine power Bank my shop key inside
It's a [b][/b]a Toyota sienna 2006model dark blue color,still in tears writing this message because the car was just brought back from workshop where I upgraded it and spray it newly,it just a day interval.
If anyone has any details at all in recovering this car should help me out, already report to the police.

Of course, alarm goes off if there's an attempt to open the door, bonnet, boot, without unlocking it with its key or fob. That one I mentioned is an additional security.

There's a lot of question to be asked about this Siena. First of all, if it was in your care, why do u have to paint or upgrade it. Who actually is the owner of the vehicle and on what condition was it given to you to hold.
Secondly, if it is a popular junction with people there, it means the person that gained access to it used the same car keys, knows about the vehicle and confidently drove it off.
So the mystery surrounding the car theft is within your vicinity. I pray you find it soon. Don't just report to the police. Find a good detective to pay and work with.

Changing of the keys. Wont this affect the car key box in the long run?

The workshop is the first suspect. I tell people to stop leaving there keys with mechanics or better change the key after long park in the workshop. Some people will take your key and perfectly mould it then trail you.

No, it doesn't work like that. Third party doesn't cover theft.
Note, third party is for the other person who may involve in an accident with you. It is not for you that pay for the insurance.
Note also that insurance is specific. Accident is different from theft. It is only comprehensive that covers all in one.

Okay, I don't know where to start because it is very broad.
Insurance is a provision that one makes to replace an item that is valuable to him in case of lost or damage..
If you have an item you valued like a house, car, jewelry, anything.
You will need to approach an insurance copy to insure it for an amount that would enable you to replace the item when lost, stolen or damaged.
The insurance coy will value the item and told you how much you will pay to them monthly or yearly as the case may be.
The insurance can be for a definite time or indefinitely.
Then once the agreement is signed by you and the insurance coy, it becomes effective. If you lost the item within one month of taking the insurance, the insurance coy pay you the agreed amount. But if the item doesn't loss or damage the insurance company keeps the money you paid for themselves.
If you insure something for ten million Naira, you will be required to be paying something like 5 thousand to the insurance company every month. If the thing you insure against did not happen, the insurance company keeps the money. if it happens at any point , they pay you the agreed amount
You can insure property, your life and the life of your children and wife, goods in transit and many other things.
