Nigerian Forces Arrest More Suspects Over Plateau Killings by Editorialtimes(op): 10:46pm On May 05, 2025
By Safiyat Muhammed | Jos, Plateau State

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of three additional suspects in connection with the recent wave of killings and insecurity in Plateau State, following intensified security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the region.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrests stemmed from targeted intelligence-led operations focused on criminal conspiracy, arms trafficking, and unlawful possession of firearms linked to violent incidents that have rocked the state.

Among those apprehended is Abubakar Jibrin, a resident of Kalone Community in Shendam Local Government Area, who was arrested on May 3 at about 4:30 p.m. Investigators discovered a submachine gun (SMG) rifle with an empty magazine hidden in his residence, following his confession during interrogation.

More Illegal Arms Recovered

The police further disclosed that on May 4, security operatives recovered two fabricated revolver rifles in Barkin Ladi, another flashpoint in the ongoing crisis. The recovered weapons were linked to ammunition traced back to a suspect, Ismail Danjuma, who is currently in custody and providing useful information to authorities.

These developments form part of wider efforts to neutralise violent elements fueling the ongoing conflict in Plateau, which has drawn condemnation from both religious leaders and civil society groups.

Christian Leaders Lead Protests for Peace

In the wake of rising tensions, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State Chapter, Rev. Polycarp Lubo, led peaceful protests alongside other church leaders to demand a lasting end to the persistent killings and kidnappings across the state.

The religious leaders, dressed in black and carrying placards, called on both the federal and state governments to protect lives and property and bring the perpetrators of violence to justice.

Governor Mutfwang Announces Curfews and Grazing Restrictions

Responding to the unrest, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has introduced a raft of security measures designed to curb the movement of suspected assailants and restrict potential flashpoints of conflict.

Key among the new directives are:

A ban on night grazing between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.;

A prohibition on transporting cattle by vehicle across the state;

A curfew on motorcycle operations from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.

Governor Mutfwang urged residents to comply fully with these measures and support security agencies in restoring order and preventing further bloodshed.

CAN National President Appeals for Unity and Support

Meanwhile, the National President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has appealed for calm, urging Nigerians—especially those in the Middle Belt—to refrain from actions that may worsen the country’s fragile security situation.

“We must rally behind ongoing peace efforts and work together to rebuild trust and stability in our communities,” Archbishop Okoh stated.

The unfolding situation in Plateau continues to attract nationwide concern, with stakeholders urging both proactive enforcement and community-driven peacebuilding as the path forward.

It's not getting them arrested that is the problem but the question is:
What do you do to them after the arrest?
Re: Nigerian Forces Arrest More Suspects Over Plateau Killings by phineas:
Justice must not just be served,it must be seen to be served

Publicize the outcomes of trials over the years of those caught,have a fast track court for them (special courts)

Mass killings is not a minor matter,the uk had to stop it's citizens from viewing that sort of news for their mental health,how can we now let bureaucracy make us handle it with kids gloves.....

Justice must be seen to be served for closure for the communities and for serving as a detergent in future.

Let us always remember children and babies were been killed with machetes in the affected communities ,whole communities displaced... How do we stay silent and continue as usual in the face of such attrocities

According to DSS witness in court Nnamdi Kanu is the ONLY person in Nigeria facing trial for terrorism even with all the killings in Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Benue, Plateau etc
This arrest will not be taken seriously by anyone because as Fulanis there punishment is rehabilitation camp and since they love shooting from there they will be encouraged to join the military, prosecution for terrorism is for Igbos agitating for Biafra arising from marginalisation

And what's bad in that?

You people should ready for such treatments if you are looking for Biafra, or you think Biafra would come without such treatments? Go and read about South Sudan before they got independence.

MEANWHILE, IF YOU ARE DECEIVING IGNORANT READERS ABOUT REAL SITUATION, IM SURE WITHIN YOU, YOU KNOW YOU ARE JUST VOMMITING LIES IN ORDER TO REDUCE LIES THAT ALREADY FULL YOUR BELLY AS A RESULTS OF INFERIORITY COMPLEX THAT COMPLETELY ENGULFED YOU.

And what is your problem with Biafra?

Why do you have a problem with a people leaving you?

Did they kill your family member ?

Don't you see something is wrong with you?
