A Nigerian tailor has lamented bitterly after receiving a debit alert of N580k for a COVID-19 loan he took years ago. He said the money removed from his account was more than the loan he had taken. How much he borrowed years back is in the comments.

So this guy wasn't expecting them to collect interest right?

These people have been so grounded in their insensitivity that he took a loan n never bothered to pay and when the money was debited all he has to say is "may Nigeria never happen to u"

So can this guy try this in saner climes?

I think they took less of what the man should refund over 4 years + plus interest and inflation

Someone here just said they took that exact amount because that was all he had. They might even take more in future. Makes sense

They debited you N580k on N400k since years back The loan is almost interest free self.

The questions I want to ask this guy are:

1. Did you agree to the terms and conditions of the loan?
2. Did you sign an agreement?
3. Were you shown how much you are expected to pay back?
4. Did you agree?

If you are aware of all of the above and you are here crying, then you are what I cannot say

You take a loan from a bank , and you expect them not to charge interest?

Right.

Unless it is an Islamic bank,which are no interest, but even then, those banks charge a service fee.

Were you expecting them to take less than the loan instead?

How in God's name has Nigeria happened to you? Bank loans always come with interest hence the deduction you got. Suck it up man.

Why didn't you pay back all this years ? They collected with accrued interest. Its a loan, not subvention.

This also happened to my friend.

There were no clear cut directives on how to repay the loan.

Moreover, why not split the money in batches?

Come and get free loans in America or any Western country...
The interest on that loan, considering the duration, is way too generous and lenient. You should have had to pay way more than that.

Nigerians don't like to pay back their loans. Even the federal government has been begging foreign nations for debt cancellation.

So he tot the money was free.
