Major Marketers, Not New NNPC Board Frustrating My Refinery — Dangote by Maxymilliano(op): 3:37pm On May 06, 2025
The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has said that those who are still fighting against the survival of his refinery were major marketers and traders, saying they were not the new leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

Dangote stated this as he praised President Bola Tinubu for assembling a “capable leadership team” at the NNPC, highlighting the appointments of Mr Bayo Ojulari as the Group Chief Executive Officer and Mr Ahmadu Kida as the Non-Executive Chairman.

In a statement on Tuesday, Dangote said he had visited the President to commend him for putting together a formidable and professionally competent team that is eminently qualified to take NNPC to a greater height.

According to Dangote, the new management team brings a wealth of technical expertise, and all have managerial experience that is essential for revitalising Nigeria’s most strategic public enterprise.

The new team, according to Dangote, under the leadership of Ojulari and Kida, reflects the President’s strategic intent to drive reform and innovation across the energy sector.

“We are confident that this team will address systemic challenges, align with the President’s vision of a $1tn economy, and reposition NNPC Limited for operational excellence and long-term sustainability,” he said.

Speaking on the report over the weekend that he is still fighting for the survival of his $20bn refinery, and that he is determined to fight the cabals in the oil sector to a standstill, Dangote said his statement was not in any way connected to the new leadership of the NNPC, noting that the new leadership in the NNPCL, has been so far supportive in terms of meeting the company’s needs.

He revealed that the cabals he was referring to “are some major oil marketers and traders who were bent on frustrating the efforts of President Tinubu in revamping the nation’s economy.”

He noted that the recent activities and structural reforms introduced by NNPC Limited serve as strong indicators of the organisation’s renewed focus on transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

“The calibre of individuals at the helm, and their deliberate, reform-driven agenda, demonstrate a commitment to fostering a culture of performance and professionalism,” he added.

Dangote expressed confidence that the new leadership of NNPC Limited will propel the country’s energy industry to new heights and reaffirmed his group’s commitment to supporting the collective vision of a prosperous, energy-secure Nigeria.

Dangote pointed out earlier that some individuals who “for a very, very long time” have “made a lot of money from” government-subsidised oil imports into Nigeria, were the ones trying to sabotage the 650,000 barrels per day oil refinery situated in Lekki, Lagos.

“We’re fighting, and the fight is not yet finished. But I have been fighting all my life, and I am ready and 100 per cent sure I will win at the end of the day,” he was quoted.

Agree to start giving the man in Aso Rock a steady commission for every barrel of refined crude oil sold and watch him look the other way. That's his modus operandi grin grin

Alhaji just returned from Singapore,he is already in Abuja ...abeg make I get better money wey go dey make me jump up and down to better places and better people. As for the marketers try to understand what their interest his and reach a Win Win agreement. You need to capture the market before other players come in.. as for your price reductions as a result of flutuaction, try create a feasible template on that.

If your refinery is working like you told Nigerians what is your business with fuel importers? You thought you could outsmart, remove them and use your refinery to sell imported fuel to Nigerians at whatever price you want? Cement and Petrol are two different kind of business and you don’t try monopoly in a business you don’t know well .Either you have a functional refinery capable of refining our local crude oil for cheap fuel or you are trying to do us NNPC Warri . If it is the former, then you should be selling fuel at below 600 it was before completion of your refinery and leave marketers alone- common sense-

I hope people are paying attention. Whenever Dangote complains about his businesses being frustrated, what he actually means is he wants monopoly over the market but competitors won't let him.

Build smaller capacities instead, serious trade partners who are small, hungry and desperate.
And I mean create a lot of them across different geographical zones.
Trust me,They'd bring those major marketers claiming boss to their knees. wink
Allow them buy in trucks, give them credit(serious ones oo),
All they need is minimum ownership of 10 trucks and pay incentives or rebates to trade partners that meet their quarterly targets and above all give them competitive price
So called Major marketers go beg when they can no longer sell their mumu imported stock grin
