I don't know if civil servants are allowed to do private business, but if they are allowed why not. It's not good having one income source. |

Salary is now to pay bills! Government of the day is senseless and wicked! Your salary of the month can’t even pay your light bills for half a month.. |

Obiedun:You people always reason off point. The people building is it with their salaries or with proceeds of pilfering in the office.? I know police officers that are corporals and have lands and houses, but maybe you don't know that a civil servant or corporal in police cannot build any house with his salary if he isn't a thief. Make Una dey reason like humans. |

Bluffly:CBN, NDIC, FIRS, NNPC,Customs, EFCC. These ones I know always do well for their staff. NDIC for example can give loans to staff after number of years in service. Loan amount depends on your grade level. Abeg no be everything person go talk . |

Bobloco:I am currently building and Mason daily pay is 10k, Back to your question Yes, if they can steal No, if they cannot steal, 77k for a bachelor to me is equal to zero in this current economy. I run my house with 200k a month with extra 50k (aside) for support from my salary for a family of 6, yet by 20th of every month, it seems things are getting finished. People who see through the lenses of politics and ethnicity will not understand how bad things are, between 2023 and now i have had salary increase three times, yet staff are still complaining of high cost of living and transportation. I remember when i got married in 2013 my salary was 20k, i give my wife 5k monthly to get things for the house, 12yrs down the line with 4 kids, i double my hustle. Summary As a civil servant, the only way you can survive now is to either steal or add side hustle to your salary. |

Bobloco:A civil servant with a family of five already and earning the minimum wage of 70k is most likely not depending on that minimum wage irrespective of the inflation and it's ripples.. |
| Re: Can A Civil Servant Ever Build A Home Now? by EhisChelsea1(m): 8:56am On May 07, 2025 |
Bobloco:Useless post and useless analysis clearly lacking understanding of how the civil service work. Minimum wage mean the LEAST possible amount anyone with the LEAST QUALIFICATION AND LOWEST LEVEL can earn in the civil service. What that means is that, under the 70k minimum wage, NOBODY with any form of certification (WAEC and above) earns below 100k. A fresh graduate jus entering the civil service under the 70k minimum wage should be earning nothing less than 150k monthly (I know it is small but it is something for a beginner especially when you are not in Lagos or Abuja). A civil servant with a family of 5 probably should have been in service for up to 10 years or so and such a person (if he enters the service as a graduate) should be earning over 250k or so), plus, most civil servants have side hustle because of the flexibility of their working houses and they also have access to soft loans and cooperatives Come to Edo State Secretariat at Sapele Road and see the posh cars state civil servants are driving, plus, many are either living in their personal houses or currently building. Some have multiple houses….. |

wunaESQ:When Things were better. How do you expect them to do repayment when total estimate for their service year of 35 years is about 30 million Naira. What is the cost of building a house now? Will they not live their life as well |
